Help choosing a flock to manage..

I did preface it with "some". I edited it for you tho 🙂 seven 12 week old
OH you did not have to do that i was not complaining just curios how many you got srry for sounding like i was complaining i was just wondering how many you got or if u actauly thought u bought week old chickens

Good luck on your chickening! I always like to have males in my flocks, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. Hopefully the one you keep will turn out to be an amazing boy for you

I hope so too.. the more colorful one appears to be the head honcho. 🙂

That's usually how it is. The more flashy the male, the higher up he is (most of the time). Something about picking the right male that a lot of people don't look at too much is that the females are also picking their favourite male. So unless one turns very aggressive and you can't handle him, I think letting the girls have a say is important. They usually make better decisions than us

Well.. Right now from what I'm seeing.. the other roo and the brown hen appear to favor one another...

Btw.. I how many hens would you suggest to keep both roos? I believe I've read 1 per 10?

That number is for adequate fertilisation, for breeding purposes. In reality, there isn't a set number. It depends on the personality of the male, the breed, the keeping conditions (a hen might have more opportunities to get away from an overzealous male in a free range setting), and even the personality of the girls. Since this is your first flock, I would say stick with one male. Two males in the same flock can be a learning curve, more than you should experience with your first flock

Hm, perhaps a group split. I'd say go with the majority. If five favour one, and two the other, keep the most popular. Unless the favourite has some problems you don't want
