Hi! My parents have a duckling with a niacin deficiency that isn’t getting better with niacin treatment. They’re doing 100mg of niacin per day in the water. It’s legs are completely inward and it’s feet are somewhat curled. It can’t walk at all pretty much, it still gets around but doesn’t actually walk. What do we do, we can’t get it to a vet right now. Is the best thing to put it down, is it suffering? Or keep trying. It’s been about 2 weeks now

We have been giving a duckling of mine 1mg of liquid vitamin B, orally for about four days now, and he’s getting better for sure - slowly. I have also been putting some in their water. But by giving it to him/her orally, you can be sure they are getting the full dose.

It's amazing stuff that's for sure! I can already see a difference in your little one. 🥰

He/she seems to be at a standstill with it. It’s been about four days getting the B orally, and in their water, and he/she isn’t getting any worse, but isn’t getting much better either. Definitely better than it was when I caught it!!

Walking better? depending on how long the deficiency was going on before treatment depends on how far they will recover. But usually there is improvement.
Walking SO much better, I don’t see him/her stumbling or laying down as much. I got them on Wednesday last week, and saw his feet were over lapped on Friday night, started the B on Saturday.

That’s so awesome the improvement!! I hope you’ll even see more improvement since you caught it so quick. They need the extra niacin at least till 10 weeks that’s when they are growing their fastest.
I’m hopeful! I’ve been giving it orally and putting it in their water just to make sure. Also letting them swim daily (which they LOVE) to get them off their feet. Fingers crossed!
