Break through the shell very carefully over the air cell, start taking away bits of shell until you have cleared away the shell that surrounds the air cell. Once you get to the leather membrane, break away the leather part, but underneath is a gelatinous type membrane. Look for the head and find the beak. Break the membrane over the beak, but be sure you dont cut through a blood supply. Watch for movement, even the slightest.
If they are moving and start chirping, stop and let them finish the work. They will be absorbing yolk so dont disturb them while they do this. They will make smacking movements with their beak like they are swallowing or eating while the yolk is absorbing. When they stop this and the blood vessels look really faded, they will start to break out. If they dont after several hours and the signs of them absorbing have stopped, then you might need to assist further.
At day 24 you ahve nothing to lose. Definitely intervene and get them out.
The eggs with the weird shaped air cells might be a loss. Ive heard thats a bad sign.
