My biggest problem with broodies hatching is that I don't have enough places to separate them all, so I leave many of them sitting together, and they roll eggs back and forth too much and kill them. I find the eggs all sloshy inside. Ewww.
I've had at least 15-20 broodies this year, with probably 10 still sitting. :th

UPDATE!! Greenie went from pip to zip to completely OUT in about 10-15 minutes! I just checked for new pips, found nothing, and then returned when I heard a huge amount of chirping. WHAAAAAT??

Congrats! Have you said what breed? I'm so excited for you, I forgot lol
Adorable. Looks pretty wet, so just watch for it to be really hard and sticky as it dries. Especially around the face and beak. Although with all that peeping, the beak seems fine! :gig
But keep an eye on it's nostrils.

Would it help for me to wipe its beak off? Yes, I thought she looked a little wet, but since this is my first time doing this firsthand (not in a supporting role), I wasn't sure if she was more wet than normal.

Easter egger mom and tailless Ameraucana (one of a kind) roo who went from being Baby Dude to becoming Rooster Dude and then died in the line of duty trying to defend a hen from a fox.

I'd wait a bit and see how it starts to dry. if it starts getting fluffy, it should be ok. If it looks gooey, it might be sticky, and that stuff can harden like glue. They eyes and nostrils are the most important to watch.
They really should be fine. Not trying to scare you. Just something to keep an eye on.

p.s. Love your avatar pic! :)

My green shelled pip did almost exactly what yours did, black wet chick all happy and moverin around strong! The brown shell had pipped at the same time, but hasn't zipped yet. I'm so glad to know about the 24hr-ish period between internal pip and external so I didn't jump the gun! Learn so much every time I come to the forums! Thanks to those who ask the pertinent questions and to those who take the time to answer them.

Update!! DAY 21:
Brownie has been beak-out for a long while now! However, her little pip has gotten a little longer, so I'm hopeful she might zip. Although, it looks like she's positioned to zip clockwise, which would be a malposition, I believe. I'm keeping an eye on her. She (he?) is the one sitting there beak out. If she's not making more progress 12 hours from now, I'll consider interceding, ala @Pyxis. But the pip has elongated a little this morning, so I'll leave her be for a bit. FYI, she is also the one who pipped opposite her air cell, so she's been a problem child from the get-go! :frow

Greenie finally took some drops of water from me, and we have 4 other eggs with significant external pipping.
