Help me choose a breed!

Thanks for the advice! I was going to say I don’t mind a hen that goes broody, I love giving them babies 💕
My only issue with SF is their size. Aren’t they quite large bodied? My kids are on the petite size, especially the 4yo. Do you think a SF would be easy for her to pick up and carry, and maybe even start some 4H showmanship with next year? I’ve never seen a SF hen in person, only the chicks at the feed store.
They do come in bantam, but I also was able to carry around the normal sized ones when I was 9ish years old. They're pretty sweet and calm😂🥰

The regular sized ones I had honestly weren't that big either. Sometimes little kids would come over and have no problem carrying them as long as they're gentle.
But having bantam SF would definitely be fun and an easy size to handle.

Awesome you guys thank you for the advice! I think I’ve narrowed it down to bantam SF as first choice and bantam Cochin as second. Any ideas for sourcing hatching eggs for either of those?

Go to the "Buy-Sell-Trade" section of this forum and post an ad. Put what you want and your location in the thread title.

Try to find your state thread in the "Where am I? Where are you!" section of this forum and chat with your neighbors.

Call your county extension office and chat with them. They might be able to help you.

Do an online search for what you are specifically looking for. It can be challenging. I know nothing about the link below so approach at your own risk, but it is a possibility I found.

Contact the "American Poultry Association" and see if they can point you in the right direction. I'd consider this a long shot but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Contact "MyPetChicken". They are not a hatchery but spot-ship for special orders.

Hopefully someone that recommended them knows of a source.

Good luck on this great adventure!
