Help me with sour crop please.

I read on BYC powdered garlic, ground ginger and ground cinnamin - potent stuff. My girl wouldn't go near it though. I'll see if I can find the link.

If you scroll down you'll see the spice recipe.

For my girl I did what it seems you are doing w/o vomiting. I was to afraid to drown her.
Seperated her into a dog crate. No food, just acv water for 24 hours. On day two, I started giving her probiotic capsules mixed with warm water. I dropped them on her beak and massaged her crop as often as I could pushing down so to work the blockage through. On day three I gave her feed mixed with warm water and more probiotic capsules (made sort of an oatmeal) which she devoured! My girl wouldn't go near the yogurt so i had to improvise, this really worked for her. I had some capsules in my fridge from when i had stomach issues, but you can pick them up at any super market, pharmacy.

Also, it took time. almost 2 weeks from start to finish. It started to dissapear after a few days but then came back so I had to begin the process over, hence two weeks.

Good luck!

Just wanted to add this as another possible solution:

Not sure it works, but a fellow BYCer suggested it when my girl had issues.

Thank you all so much for the help and support, i am very grateful.
I with held food today as her crop keeps filling and i've only been giving her yogurt with fresh garlic mixed in it, so today she got nothing, i felt sorry for her.
I have still been vomiting her 2 times a day, she brings up the yogurt and water but it seems very slimey. Not sure what my next step should be if what i'm doing does not work.
Thank you top of the hill for the links, i will read them when i settle the little one down.

Same protocol for all sour crop issues. Separate the hen, 24 hours with no food, only water with 1/4 teaspoon of acidified copper sulfate (comes in powder form usually at the feed store) in a gallon in plastic waterer only. If you can't find that, use 2 tablespoons of organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in the plastic gallon waterer, changed daily. Day 2, add only plain yogurt. Day 3, add plain scrambled egg to the yogurt. Each day, massage the crop, several times each day, pushing toward the back of the crop, not upward. Day 3, maybe some soupy oatmeal added to the eggs and yogurt, but NO grains. Hopefully, that will clear it up.

Making her throw up can kill her if she aspirates something. Had it happen, though she was regurgitating on her own at the time.

Thank you speckledhen for you input.
I will try her tomorrow with some yogurt and keep adding the acv in her water.
How much yogurt should i give her? and what should i do if her crop keeps filling up? do i stop the food again for another 24 hours and start from the beginning or not?
Also if she does empty the crop fully, how long do i keep her seperated and on a lighter diet?
Sorry for all the questions, this is the second time she has had this in 2 weeks. I think i might of let her out to soon last time and that is why it came back, want to make sure i do the right thing this time.

Give her a few tablespoons, maybe 1/4 cup of plain yogurt that second day. This is a hard issue to fix and she may have to be off solid food for three or four days, all the while with you massaging the crop. You have to play it by ear with this. It's hard to tell you exactly what to do when since I can't see the bird or feel her crop for myself. If you think you've made good progress, you can keep her on scrambled eggs and plain yogurt for several days and then if it doesn't seem soured anymore, you can add soupy powdered oatmeal or wet her layer pellets with water.

Now, you mention "emptying". Is the crop full of fermented smelling gassy stuff? Just want to make sure this is what we're talking about and not impacted crop. Some folks mix the two up.

Thanks again for your help.
She does have sour crop, it was very large and fluid filled, it did smell but i don't know how bad as i damaged the nerves in my nose many years ago and can't smell any thing, so had to rely on my husbands sense of smell lol, he said it did smell but not too bad.

Strange I've only ever heard of charcoal being used to absorb the toxins so it can pass through their bodies. My dog was on it for a week after eating rat poison and having her stomach pumped.

She is better today. I did not feed her yesterday, only gave her water with acv. I checked on her this morning and her crop is almost completely empty, i just gave her a dish of yogurt with a little olive oil mixed in with it.
This time i will not rush to let her out, i will slowly build up her food over a few days and then let her out with the others when i know she is 100%.
Thank you all for the help.

Watch the olive oil use with sour crop. I believe that caused the relapse in my girls recovery. I added it to the mash I made for her thinking it would be good, however, I read that olive oil is actually very slow to digest.

Glad to hear she is doing better! One day at a time
