Hi everyone. So after keeping Calls the last 8 years I decided to branch into muscovies. We incubated according to the main muscovy incubating article on here; this one and incubated dry until adding water at lockdown. I've listed everything I've done from first intervention in this Facebook group on this post but honestly I'm not getting back much of a response and I'm just not 100% that the yolk has ruptured as I've been told and what the best course of action was. I think I had a sticky duck. Please be gentle on me, I don't think anyone was unkind to me but I feel incredibly guilty if I have done something to jeopardise them. If anyone is part of the group for can see the post thank you, I'll start posting it below but I'm desperate for a wider consensus of action.

I can't post any of the videos here (they are on that Facebook post) but 48 hours of internal pip I opened up the air sac. I thought baby had been tapping but on opening the egg I was aware it was respiratory. Baby had not been cheaping. Coconut oil was put on and baby sealed back up with some air holes.

This is the next night at the same time. Veins had progressed but not movement. I cleaned the nares and put it back in. It looked like it may have made some movement under the tape on the shell but couldn't be certain. I left it overnight hoping it would start on some progress.

(I should add that the previous night it had seemed very wet in there) this is the next morning. That membrane on the face was absolutely glued, as was the thin part on the lower half. I washed it off but was alarmed that it would harden and stop the baby from both hatching and breathing. There was no blood.

So after cleaning I see some more yellow fluid running out. This is what has caused some people to suggest the yolk was broken. I peeled back the shell but baby practically kicked out within 5 minutes although my intention had been to out them back in the bator and let them do it slower and in their own time.

So around the umbilicus seemed a whole load more goop and what I assumed was the embryonic waste, so I gently cleaned that off. The next photo is how it looks now. I would be so grateful for any advice, both for helping this little one but for future hatches as I realised I would only get one or two babies and we have more eggs resting. I honestly feel terrible and really want to understand what happened and how to help.

He needs to shrink wrap. He’s still has some absorbing to do. He should shrink up quickly and easily.
Oh honestly the sense of relief seeing I managed to catch you! Again I'm so sorry for dragging you in but I saw your other post and no one else seemed to know much about "sticky chicks" which is what I cross my heart thought was happening. He is getting livelier but still unsteady on his feet. We have duck crumb we have soaked in a very mildly sugared warm water which we have offered and he has taken the taste at least along with a few sips. Didn't want to not offer food just in case it was the yolk sac. Honestly we have had him burritoed on our persons most of the day, as - again I'm guessing and could completely be wrong - I'd hoped that along with heat, bond and comfort would be one of the most important things he would need right now so his body can do what it needs. There is a slight clicking noise from his nares. The bump is still getting smaller and drier and I've ordered some vetericyn (any suggestions to tie us over the next day until it arrives would be gratefully recieved) but it seems that we either keep it dry if its umbilical or wet if it's a burst yolk? Completely torn so have just been keeping it warm and loved. Again, thank you so much for lending your experience!
