Good to know! Thank you!I usually take my babies out of the incubator once they really start moving around in there even if they are not dry. I've never had a problem doing that and everyone is fine. I also take the nasty egg shells out too.
Just keep the temp, at 99.5 for now, those babies should be dry soon enough. I've never once had a duckling jump out of a kiddie pool, the one I have the lip is about 2 feet tall.
After I move them what should the temp be? Will this huge storage container work for now? I can’t go to Walmart at the moment. What other way can I clamp this lamp? Are there other ways of heating it?most of the ducks are fluffy and they’re all walking around except for the one egg that hasn’t hatched yet. On the last picture I put a top on part of it to keep the heat in. Do you think that’s a good idea?Just keep the temp, at 99.5 for now, those babies should be dry soon enough. Yes and @WVduckchick told me she does the same thing. She's an awesome hatcher and has helped so many people including me with awful assisted hatches. She's taught me a ton about hatching! The thing is it's never cut and dried. Just when you think you've got a handle on it something changes and it's a whole new ballgame!I cut it in the middle and wait till they are half moist/half dry, I think you can do more damage if you leave them in there to long since they like to jostle the eggs around so much.
I moved 6 of the ducklings but the 7th duckling seems to be in bad shape. He can’t stand or barely lift his neck. He is definitely alive and moves a little. What should I do? The last egg is trying so hard to get out. Should I put Neosporin on the membrane?Do you have a thermometer, so you can adjust the distance correctly, looks to close to me, do you have a bigger tote? Kiddie pool?
My other ducklings are eating the shavings. Should I take the shavings out and put a towel down the first week?I would apply a little bit of the Neosporin to the membrane and widen the hole a little bit for him, usually, when they are struggling hard trying to get out they have already absorbed most of the yolk sac, but if you notice any veins put him back in the incubator. Most you can do for the duckling that has hatched is just leave him in there for a while and take him into the brooder and let him rest.
