Help my neighbor said my chickens are being loud :(

So after reading your post I was thinking the gals do quiet down when I go out to the coop and say “what’s up chicky chicks?”...They come jump on me, or softly chirp at me. Since the coop/garden shed has power, I could get a baby cam. I see there is one on Amazon for $16 that syncs with your phone and it can notify you for sound or movement. It also has a small speaker, that you can talk through. So even if I was at work if I saw them going crazy nuts singing i could talk through the monitor and say “what’s up chickys?” 😂 my co-worker would bust a gut.

Yes totally did that tonight. I shut the hatch to the run at 4:30 pm two were in the boxes laying. But I figured then they wouldn’t be running out to the run at 5:00 “screaming” (tho not all of them sing the egg song in a opera voice with tonsillitis thankfully).

My suggestion is to go out when the girls start their egg song & distract them with some snacks.

You can also try to leave them in the coop a little longer in the morning to muffle the sound, or maybe you can move the coop further away from the complaining neighbors house.

@cmom I have actually never been to Traverse City in on my list to visit one day. I’m from the upper peninsula of MI on the north shore. Traverse is a bigger city so I get some larger city’s having stricter ordinances, however my town has hardly 3,000 people. And honestly the snowmobiles that ride past make way more racket. I guess everyone had their own definitions of what nuisance noise is. I -Wish- I could have a rooster. I love how showy they look!

We aren’t allowed to let ours free range (well sometimes I let them out while I’m out working in the garden). But I’m ok with that, as we have bald eagles that frequent the area and I have seen them sitting in the pines on my property. As well as hawks, and peregrine falcon. We have our outdoor run roofed, with livestock fence.

I moved to Florida nearly 50 years ago. I had to get rid of my birds. Back then Traverse City wasn't very big. Where it used to be open farm land when I was young is now shopping centers and malls.

It's hard to imagine anyone NOT enjoying the egg song. It's the favorite part of my day. I have one that has a horrendous voice and I just laugh and laugh, but I agree with the others, let her know what the egg song is. Most likely, if you have never had chickens, you wouldn't know about that. And if she hears it again, she will know its a happy song, and maybe she will start enjoying it!

I am just wondering, what is the noise ordinance according to time, though? I mean, I could never imagine getting upset about noise anytime before 10 pm. Heck, it could be worse! I have a neighbor who had a habit of Playing his drums up to 1:30 am.
