Help! My week old d’uccle is acting weird

The one had been chirping non-stop since birth and i could never figure out what it was.. kinda worried if this was something contagious now?
Most often in my experience... hundreds of chicks later... those ones are not connecting with the food and they are hungry. They essentially die from starvation... otherwise known as failure to thrive.

Check that butt... look for poop. :fl It's one reason my birds stay on paper towels for several days.. make sure everyone is eating feed not shavings, and see them all poo.

I found some rooster booster that I have.
Rooster booster is a brand name, they make many products meant for different purposes. In this case... I hope it's the poultry cell.

Putting the vitamins in the water may not be enough for a weakling. I usually do drops to the beak, just below the nostrils with the chick facing the bend in my forefinger to help catch and direct the drip. They usually gobble and swallow as it rolls around into their mouth. I do this every 30 minutes, several times until I see improvement.

If you can hear crackling when the chick breathes.. it may have inhaled some water... which causes major lethargy and usually death.

Coccidiosis takes at least 6 days for symptoms to appear and does not sound like the issue at all. Figured I should mention it since it's one leading cause of chick death.

What a bunch of little cuties you got there! :love

One last suggestion to possible cause of failure this young would be blocked crop from ingesting too many shavings and not yet having grit available.

Hi :frow

This may not be what you want to hear, however I raise d'Uccles and from my experience they are not very hardy as chicks. I've seen this a couple of times. ND didn't seem to do anything. Spending a lot of time picking up bits of food while 'chirping' seems to do well at getting them to eat at least a little bit. That's about as far I can get without enlisting the help of older chicks to teach them to eat/drink.

aww thank you love my babies with all my heart lol ☺️
Hm it isnt the poultry cell one. Its the powder vitamin & electrolyte one with lacto.. something so idk if thatd help in any way.
I did notice if she tried to take a sip of water it seemed that shed be gasping a bit aa if it was hard to go down? I have VetRx too. Omg im willing to try anything with her :(
I put chick grit in their feed as well, and a very small amount of poppy seed.

If it was cocci, i have corrid on hand as well i just know that i cant use vitamins at the same time as corrid

From my experience, this isn't Cocci. And even if it were at this point Corrid wouldn't do anything. Corrid only slows the protozoan growth, not kills it.

I think it may help to gently, and I mean gently, open her beak and put very small pieces of crumble just inside her beak. Do not push it towards the back no matter what. If she tries to spit it out let her, then try again.

Sadly shes going to be gone any moment. She collapsed and is now cuddled up in my hand. Her head tries to tilt back as if she has no control & her breathing is slow but from her opened mouth as well

So sorry :hugs
Experience has taught me that this breed is extremely fragile.

I have a few gold necks in my incubator. Will be extra careful with them. I have three other mille fleurs that are about a month old..
starting to wonder if maybe just had to do with the egg from the start. :/
From your experience do you have any information you think i should know about? I love this breed and hope to have more of my own soon.

My experience is that the chicks are often slow to learn to eat/drink. 2-3 days usually is how long it takes. And Cocci takes these chicks extremely quickly. By the time I've known they had it they were already half dead.

I advise frequent brooder cleanings and using the 21 day Corrid prevention dose starting at 1 week old. High protein (30%) gamebird feed has resulted in my highest survival rates.
