The baby seems fine... I called my parks and wildlife, but they are closed today as its a holiday.. so Im gonna try again tomorrow.

Speaking of Permits... is anyone here into Falconry? I love to find someone in my area who is into Falconry so that I can Apprentice under them and get my Raptor Licence....

Yay! Glad to here its doing okay. Is there any other refuge you could call to at least get more detailed feeding/care information? I looked over your website, saw that you seem to be quite into birds.

If you talked to another wildlife center, I'm sure they could tell you how to set up to get that license.

Owls can be tricky....you do need the professionals for this one. If it's abarn owl, they eat only mice. Their diet is very strict. Good luck!

Glad he's ok. If you want I can see if I can find individual wildlife rehabbers near you or that you can call, who might be able to give you advice on his care and maybe getting permitted or certified yourself to be allowed ownership?
It's difficult to find someone willing to take you in as an apprentice falconeer and it's often passed down to family or friends, not people they don't know, but if you get involved in a forum and befriend others in the falconry hobby you may get lucky.

*** Oh and you may want to keep quiet about it to people you know or live near so word doesn't get out or you get reported by a neighbor or something while you are figuring what to do - because there is usually a very hefty fine and/or jail time for keeping any native species of bird, especially raptors. Here I believe it is a $5000 fine and up to a year in prison and the animal is confiscated. They can also tack on endangerment or animal abuse if it wasn't cared for properly and lord knows what else.
I'm not condoning keeping him or not keeping him, just warning to be careful and try to get legal one way or the other, whether it be bringing him to a rehabber or getting licensed.

First, whatever you are feeding the bird, do not let it see your face. You will imprint it.

Second, call Last Chance Forever

phone (210) 499-4080
web: www.lastchanceforever.org

They will not be able to come get the bird but they can direct you to the resource nearest you. If you can get it to them, they will take it.

Finally, if you are interested in falconry contact the Texas Hawking Association (http://www.texashawking.org) . They will be able to help you.
