I have had some Orpington chicken eggs in the incubator for 24 days now no sign of hatching and to be honest when I candled them I wasn't hopeful. However lasy night I thought I would give them a last look at before switching off and as I moved lid one egg cheeped at me. I quickly popped the lid back on and left it be. today I head nothing until about an hour ago when for the first time the egg started to move and when I cheeped it cheeped back, but no signs of pipping. what should I do, I am fairly sure there is nothing happening in the other eggs, do I just leave my little cheeper to get on with it, should I help and if so how? I have a little 3 egg incubator which I have switched so if it does hatch it can dry out there as I thought staying in with six other potentially rotten eggs might not be healthy. I have hatched quails before and raised chicks from day olds but not hatched any so need some help quickly to see what is best to do with cheep! Any advice always gratefully received

24 days is kind of late, if the chick hasn't made any progress by tomorrow, I would say, help it hatch. For right now, just leave the chick alone to try to hatch by itselft

if the incubator temp was running low they could be hatching late also
temp has been a fairly steady 37.5. even when I remove the top to add water it only drops for a minute and is then back up again. My main concern is that I have had to lift the lid off to add water so the humidity will have dropped now and again. As I said I didn't feel positive when I got them. and I had given up last night. Not sure how it will fair just being 1 little chick on its own if it does survive. however its cheep is quite strong so we will cross each bridge as it comes. thanks
