Hi, I have a male peafowl who was hand raised named Sausage.
he is very friendly towards me and my sister, but has recently been attacking my mum and my neighbors. And he has also been calling for a mate at 4am in the morning (he is only 2 years old and has no tail). They have complained about the noise and attacking. But i just cant get rid of him, he is so lovely and acts like a little puppy towards me. Will getting him a female mate help? (the only other peafowl we have is his mother, whom he is not interested in). or are there some other measures yo might suggest? (also it just came into spring here) Please help.

Tell your mom and neighbors to show him who's boss. Until Sausage learns to respect them, have them have on hand a stick, or something they can use to defend themselves. Once he learns to respect them, remind them to give Sausage his fair share of glares and whacks if he tries to attack them again. Also, for the noise, you can get or make a rooster collar. Here's how:

(it's method three)
Good luck with your rooster!

P.S. We have an unbearably mean rooster that crows literally every five minutes! We caught him and he is on trial right now in a dog crate while we decide what to do with him. We will probably end up giving him to the feed store.

1st, welcome to the peafowl area!

2nd, ignore the chicken people. Roosters are not the same as peacocks.

3rd, do not encourage people to beat your peacock with a stick. Also do not tie anything around his neck. Abusing animals is never the answer. Keep him separated if necessary but don't punish him for normal behavior.

4th, a two year old male is like a teenager, loud and learning to be a man. He'll be even louder next spring. It should only last a few weeks, but it's natural and you can't really train him not to behave the way nature wants. If he's been raised with people he'll be worse than birds who have mostly socialized with other birds because he looks at you as an equal. If he is actually attacking people then you need to keep him in his pen until mating season ends. Don't hit him with sticks. You are the human so you need to find ways to make everyone safe. The calling you can't really do much about.

Post some pictures of your peas!
