Help: Peachick with swollen face! ?

Well I couldn't be with them as being a"drop off" appointment they take her in the back part of the hospital and I'm not allowed there. So I went on to work. The vet called me about 11am asked some questions and proceeded to throw a few ideas around. Noothers with any of these symptoms. ..but 1 being from injury or 2 infection of some sort. She suggested MG testing for $75 for the fact I have other birds. .and surgery for sedation/lansing and cleaned with antibiotics. . $300 total "ballpark"

Sigh...yes xmas is only weeks away. .sure. . I've decided to pass on testing at the moment. I'll have to save back some after the holiday. From what I've read if one has it they likely all do and she wouldn't be cured of it if she does. ..So....

They're going to put her on antibiotics, right?

If you decide to have her tested later I think you can have it done for less. Call Purdue, they have the test listed as $25:

You might even be able to have a State vet come draw blood.

I totally agree

, we work with what we have , you are not the first person to walk in that office and be concerned about expenses and their comment was uncalled for, I would find another vet once this is taken care of, "one with a better bedside" manner so to speak

PS i imagine that MG test would take a week to get results so sense your bird is in need of immediate care that could be done at a later date not wait a week to start some kind of treatment and i believe the state vet will test for free that is what they are there for in our state

That is how they control outbreaks and such.

I am here now waiting for her to come out from under sedation. I've paid already looking at the bill there aren't any antibiotics listed. I will be talking with the Dr soon but I will be leaving here with some.

Pretty sure my vets would prescribe Clavamox or Baytril. Talk to the vet about both.

Awww finally sitting! Looong day! Left at 7am icy roads caused a 45 mile trip take over 3 hours!

So..update. She looks a lot better! I had a nice long discussion and in the end she agreed to send home baytril. She didn't have the antibiotic specific to treating Mycoplasma but I wanted to leave having her on something so baytril it is.
Drop of Ofloxacin Ophthalmic solution in the right nostril and right eye twice a day, 1 ml of Baytril 2x's a day.
