This post is a continuation of my thread "What Should I Do With My Broody Hen" (https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...th-my-broody-hen.1577562/page-3#post-26864748). This is a new thread I made for this topic.

I have a broody hen on day 18. She has been doing well so far. However, one of the eggs had a small hole when we candled today.

Is this a peephole? It's only day 18 so I'm unsure about that. Could it be a crack?
Also, if it is a peephole, could the chick inside have been hurt when I candled the egg?

Thanks for any help!

Did the chick look ok in the egg? The membrane isn't pierced so I don't think it's a peephole. My guess would be that the broody hen chipped off part of the shell while turning it the chick should be fine.
I couldn't see the chick. When I candled it, it looked fine. The chick was taking up almost the entire space except for the air bubble, and the veins were there too. I wasn't able to check if the membrane was fine.
