HELP please! My buff orpington is sick AGAIN

I am one of the *few* that will give lots of drugs at once. I don't use penicillin, but I have used amoxicillin with Corid, metronidazole and Safeguard at the same time. Oddly enough, the last one i did that with had bloody poop similar to your bird's poop, but without the worms. People say that you shouldn't give vitamins with Corid, something about it being a thiamine blocker, but I haven't seen any published data on it, but I do know that some antibiotics should not be given with certain minerals, so you might want to call a pharmacist and ask what the drug interaction for penicillin are.

For those still following: My girl is doing a LOT better!

She is moving around, jumping on things, wreaking havoc in my basement :)

She had her 4 day course of injected penicillin, also SafeGuard and Corid (still treating).

I ordered Baycox and will give it to her when it gets here (doing some research I found out that Corid is a coccidostat, which slows down cocci but -sometimes- doesn't really cure it completely, and I think that's what happened last time).

Her poop is NORMAL and has been for the past couple days :) She even seems a little plumper! She has a nice appetite and has been eating all sorts of things.

I'm going to take her back to the coop with the rest of the girls. I'll bring her in at night, since it's going to freeze... Can't wait for spring!!!

Thanks again to everybody who chimed in to help. You are all awesome.

Glad to hear she is doing better. The Baycox sounds very promising, but probably harder to find. Don't be surprised if the others go after her when she re-enters the coop. Keep a good eye on her (I'm sure you will). Maybe putting her in her own fenced in area or crate for a couple of days will get them used to her again. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Glad to hear she's doing a little better.

For those that might want to try it, you can buy generic 5% Baycox (toltrazuril) for horses, but one would need to reaseach the dosing for poultry,

I also found this link, but haven't read it yet

They are being really mean to her... I need to try to put her in an enclosed space within the fenced chicken area..

I bought the Baycox on Amazon no problem!

Stay tuned for updates :)

To those still following:

Finished the Corid... there was a problem with my toltrazuril order and finally got it 3 days after I was done with the Corid,.... She was starting to show symptoms AGAIN!!! I was starting to lose hope.

The toltrazuril worked FAST. Less than 24 hours later she perked up and got a lot better.

She is doing great, better than ever. I don't even remember the last time I saw her so well since this whole mess started.

I guess she had a very resistant strain of cocci, but the toltrazuril worked like a charm. The label says the egg toss period is 8 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But she's not laying yet... I hope she takes her time now.

Thanks to all who helped. :)

Thanks for the update and the info on the toltrazuril.

I'm SO discouraged... She is sick AGAIN.

Yesterday she estarted again with same symptoms.

I found mites and dusted her with Sevin-5 AGAIN.

She's eating and drinking again after spending the night indoors (it got below freezing last nite).

Her stools are green, mucousy and smell TERRIBLE.

At this point I'm not sure if it's the same disease coming back or if I have a weak/disease prone chicken.

I'm at a loss.... I treated her with CORID, Wazine, antibiotics (injected for 5 days into breast), Toltrazuril, poultry dust... You name it.

She always recovers but I'm not sure what works (each time I do something different).

She also seems to be losing weight, like she's wasting away.

She was doing AWESOME until yesterday.

Any ideas?? She is my favorite hen and I don't want to give up on her.

Thanks everybody...

The photo you provided in post #30 of the worm; did you notice if it was flat and had segments? If so, it's tapeworms you're dealing with and that's why nothing is working for your bird. I tried looking at the photo with a magnifying glass and couldnt tell if it had segments or not.
