Help please!!

Sooo, went to toss the duck eggs today (Day 31) but my daughter begged me to candle them before I did. Went to pick one up and it pipped! Noticed 3 others had pipped also!! 3 have hatched thus far and now the fourth is on it's way. I have studied a lot about the chicks but the ducklings not so familiar with. Do I use the same brooder? Chicks are gone now. How long till I can release them in the wild? The ducklings are call ducks breed. Should I just give them away to a farm? Not really sure what to do...

Here's a picture of these cuties..

If Call ducks are not native to your area (are they even a wild duck?) you should NOT "release them into the wild". You might just as well kill them yourself and put them in the freezer. It would be a lot more humane and the meat wouldn't go to waste. I would even venture to guess that it could cause a problem with your local fish and wildlife people if you released a non-native species.

Hatching experiments are fun and all, but really - you should have a plan in place BEFORE you hatch them out as to what to do with them...

They are cute little buggers! :love

call ducklings normal incubation time is 26 days, and they are very hard to hatch. So i would have to guess your timing is off. anyway, i have to agree with Bobbi, please do not release these beautiful ducklings. List them on Craigslist. for free, you will have people clamoring for them.

until then, you can put them in the brooder that you used for chicks. They will make more mess with the water. Put a few pebbles in the water trough, but leave some gaps between, and they won't splash as badly. They do need to be able to dip their entire bill to keep the nares (nostrils) cleaned out. And never ever give ducks food without access to water.

beautiful babies. I'd take them if you were close.

If you let these babies go in wild with no wild mom that has taught them what to eat where to find in and what is dangerous that is a death sentence. Not to mention as others have said about the impact on wild population and ecosystem. Where are you located? There are many people here that may be in your area an would take them

so when I started this project I had homes lined up for both ducks and chicks. The chicks went on to their new home but the as far as the ducks, the people back out. I wasn't going to do this without that set up. So, that is why I am now wondering what to do. I think I may have found a home for them. I just wasn't sure of what to do. I will not release them into the wild. I wish I could keep them, but I can't.

4th just hatched. Here's hoping I find a home for them soon.

Yay! New babies are awesome. I have 4 now in brooder. And call ducks are so cute and tiny..gonna be my next ones along with some blue Swedish.
:)

glad to hear you may have homes for them!! Here are a couple videos of my dozen calls, i hatched them March 25th. They live in a sectioned off area of the yard, but i let them out yesterday into the rest of the yard for the first time. ❤
