HELP - Prolapsed Vent

I'm feeling very hopeful!
Did another soak in epsom salts because I was attempting to get out the blockage and wanted to minimize the swelling if possible. My husband held her and I tried to go in to the 'vent' and couldn't even get my finger inside this time. I inserted my finger into the area that was the 'split' and was able to push pretty far in... NO BLOCKAGE!

SO...I attempted to deride, and it turns out, that entire area, including what I thought was the vent, was actually all 'scab'. And what I thought was a split, IS her actual vent!
I was successful in getting over HALF of the scabbed dead tissue off. So much easier when my husband is holding her and gives me two free hands to work with. I have a dissection kit that I purchased to keep in our first aid kit.. and it had two pairs of surgical scissors in there and I was able to use that to remove the 'chunks' that were pulling loose from her backside. Giving way to some very healthy tissue, that isn't bleeding!

The pictures below show that her vent is still a bit off -centered (where the poop is), but I think that is because there is still a big chunk of 'scab' to the left keeping her backside from being in the right spot.. lol

After we did the deriding, I felt that we should soak her for a few more minutes in some fresh water w/chlorhexidine in it, then sprayed a bit of the Vetericyn on the area before slathering honey all over it and in the vent. Then on to her favorite part.. the blow dryer... lol

I'll be trying this again tomorrow, and hopefully will get a lot of the remaining dead tissue off, then we can work on pushing the prolapse back in! YAY! :celebrate:wee

My goodness, you have done a great job at debriding the wound. It looks so much healthier. It always helps to have someone help you hold while you get in there to do things. Keep up the good work.

Thank you!

I have to admit, I was really discouraged before this last treatment... and actually asked my hubby if he would be able to cull if we couldn't clear her vent. (neither of us has had to cull any of our girls or roos so far)
I was soooo happy when I saw that it was as it was... and there was no blockage. And definitely having two hands while he held made a big difference... I would have never been able to use the scissors to remove tissue otherwise. I'm feeling very optimistic and hoping I can get the remaining dead tissue off tomorrow... Hubby leaves again for work travel on Tuesday morning :/

That looks great! I'm glad you were able to have help and be able to examine her more closely and get most of the scabbing off. What a relief - I thought it was split as well.

You've been doing a wonderful job taking care of her, I hope she continues to improve. Thank you for the updates and photos. Please keep us posted.

More Progress today!

Another epsom salt/deriding soak. The majority of the dead tissue has been derided!! A few spots left that I'm going to have to keep working at. I think some of the tissue near her vent had started to heal over, it was a 'lighter' color, almost white (green circle below). I cleared as much as I could of it off though because .. well... poop. There were a few parts of dead tissue that I removed, and they bled a bit... but I was actually encouraged by this because that, to me, meant that her body is trying to heal and there is more blood in the area. Green arrow is pointing to the last 'big' piece of dead tissue along w/the few little white specs.
I did another clean water w/chlorhexidine soak again, then sprayed her w/the Vetericyn and slathered her with triple antibiotic ointment.

Guess what?!?! Once one of the big chunks of dead tissue on the left was removed, she started to retract her vent on her own! I tried to get her to keep it out until I could give it another good cleaning w/the chlorhexidine and get her lathered w/ointment.... and then she started to pull it in again on her own before her hair dry/blow out.. lol

check out the pics below... Hoping I can get the remaining pieces cleared while my husband is away for travel and I'm back to working on my own... otherwise... it will be soaking and cleaning until Thursday.
