I have a question after reading this thread. I hope I can state it clearly:

If you get light-colored eggs from an older Maran that has had her eggs lighten simply due to her age, won't the babies hatch as normal Marans and lay dark eggs?

After reading this I would say the answer is no. Apearrantly the eggs never do get THAT light.

actually there was no flash on the second picture, its just a light over the eggs. unfortunalty there wasnt much difference between flash/ no flash..

Ya I'm confused myself I read on a site that they lighten as there cycle comes to an end but I don't know never had marans before forgive my stupidity folks! I got some off a local guy some were a little lighter than others but I guess there still marans I don't intend to sell the eggs for hatching anyway if I would I'd get some from a reputable breeder!

I'm glad you got your money back. I know those were not the same eggs. They were on different sides of the chart. I would be very watchful when buying eggs from the internet. I have bought $50 worth of eggs and had 2 chicks hatch. I don't know if it was me or the bator or the shiping, but I did set some under a hen and had none hatch.
Well at least she didn't fight you
