help my chickens have started growing weird stuff on their throat outside there body
it looks like sand clumped up on all the little feathers on their throat
at first i thought it was nothing because it was just on on my two silkie pekins and i thought it might just be something that silkie pekins have but now ive discovered it on another one of my chickens

what type of bedding do you use and do they dust bathe? it could be from when their throat gets wet when they drink and sand and stuff sticks to it when they dust bathe/any other activity chickens do

Have you checked with a magnifying glass, it may be clumps of some kind of insect/eggs. What does it feel like when you touch it? At first I thought maybe it was part of a thistle plant, they stick on like glue. Is it just by their throats or in other places on them? If it's just by their throats I wonder if they got it when they bend to eat or drink or scratch & peck. Really odd.

Those look like they could be lice eggs. They lay them around the chicken's head and neck because they can't preen them off there. Are you seeing things like this?

If so you should treat for lice.

Dust them with Sevin 7% garden dust, you can find it at TSC or any big store like a Walmart in the garden section. It's a red bottle. You need to dust the birds with it, clean out their coop and dust that, and then repeat the process again in seven days since the Sevin only kills the adult lice and dusting again kills all the ones that have hatched since the first treatment.

Lice can damage feathers and they make the birds itchy and uncomfortable, so it's definitely worth treating.
