Okay so three days ago I went in to put my birds away in there hut at night and I noticed my Jersey Giants head was shaking so I kept watching her and all of a sudden she threw her head back against the back of her back and started moving it side to side and I just thought at that time oh maybe she has an itch but she's been doing it every night and its starting to worry me. She's completely fine in the day time I'm pretty sure, I only notice it in the evening when I go to put them away. Has this ever happened to anyone else birds or have any answers I would love some as soon as possible. So far none of my other birds have done it.

Are you sure she isn't just preening her back feathers?
How old is she? Is she moulting?
Have you checked the coop/hut and chickens for lice and mites?
It could be a neurological problem so we could really do with seeing some video footage of it to pin it down and offer appropriate advice. Video needs to be uploaded to the likes of You Tube and then a link posted on this thread.

Okay. Yes we do know for sure theres no lice or anything like that, I don't think she was preening her feathers because she wasn't using or beak or anything just the back of her neck and she only does it in the evening when I go to put them to bed, she's 5 months old... I will try and get a video tomorrow.

It does sound neurological, but a crop problem might also be a possibility, especially since it is happening in the evenings. Feel of her crop in the morning to feel if her crop has emptied as it should normally. If it is full and hard, doughy, or puffy, a crop problem may be possible.

Hmm okay maybe that is the problem she is very poofy and stands very strangely but we put her in quarantine because she just shakes her head and moves her head around very quickly so it could be a neurological problem. But thank you so so much for your guesses it help so so much.:love:D

Your hen's behavior sounds a lot like the problem I've had with a rooster. It's called Star Gazing Syndrome. You can Google it and find a lot of information about it. It's not usually fatal for adult chickens and the problem usually lasts 3 to 4 weeks. I think it's a virus but I'm not sure. Another site suggested that it was a vitamin deficiency so to be on the safe side I added vitamins to his water.
It is spread by droppings or thru hatching eggs from affected breeders. It looks very uncomfortable and is hard to watch when they are having a spasm.
I hope your hen will eventually improve.
