HELP! Theres something wrong with Smudge!

Still doesn't lists the Units. Oh well.
Let me check the back of my bag.....
I'm considering switching to Scratch and Peck anyway to support our local feed store, so I'll link that as well.

This is what the feed store had currently, my chewy shipment was late so I grabbed a bag from them- https://www.chewy.com/scratch-peck-feeds-organic-layer-16/dp/289923
I've been feeding the flocks this for the last few days.

Heres the grower that the feed store was out of- https://www.chewy.com/scratch-peck-feeds-naturally-free/dp/214673

I feed Nutrena Naturewise All Flock Pellets. Birds love it.

I know nothing about these feeds, but @U_Stormcrow, might.

This link if you click on the 61 pictures under “gross lesions,” has many pictures of organs with Mareks disease:

That was good info. I have harvested 100s of chickens and its my job to pull out the gut package. Those lumpy organ pictures are gross! Some were hard to tell what I was looking at though.

I guess during a necroscopy you would be looking for any lumps and bumps and discoloration of the organs. Looking through the "normals" tab was reassuring.

I am interested in your results.

Sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. :hugs

I don't. Some of the Scratch & Pecks have been mentioned on other threads for birds picking out favorites and leaving the rest, as have the Kalmbach's, so I avoid them (also price, also availability, also price, price, price...) Disappointing they don't list vitamins.

Sorry to hear about the bird that started this thread, and without poking around the insides, no good way to tell cause, and harder then to pin down dietary issues as potential cause of the internal symptoms. I don't have the experience to tell one lesion from another. I just know "normal/healthy" and "not".

I love Scratch & Peck. It's not processed. You can actually plant it and it will sprout. I've used it for fodder.

I've not had issues with the birds "picking out" certain things. I find that bags that are handled a lot do have a lot of fines. Fresher bags have less dust/fines. What I do now is gather up those fines when their feeders get low and ferment it, but you can also feed the fines to them in a mash. My birds absolutely *thrive* on it. I've taken to mixing it with pellets recently just to cut down on cost. It ain't cheap, but I've not seen results anywhere near as good on anything else. Plus, it's now been formulated for ducks, too, so it works well in my mixed flock. I buy grower because I have a rooster and some young pullets who don't need the calcium of layer feed.

If you are concerned with having them pick out only bits of it, they also make pelleted feed.

Heres a link to the feed- https://www.kalmbachfeeds.com/product/18-start-right-chick-feed-non-gmo/
In the necropsy video I watched, looking at the trachea I believe would show signs of a vitamin deficiency. I'll definitely post pics of that for you to help me diagnose. I'll post a link to my necropsy thread here once I get things setup.
I'm sorry to hear she didn't make it :hugs

There's nothing wrong with that feed. It's a nutritionally balanced commercially produced poultry feed. https://www.kalmbachfeeds.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/N1051C.pdf
