help wanting to feed FF but not sure where to get the "mother"

It's not sour, it's sour off gross smell. The first batch I made was really good, it was fruity smelling and good. Then SOMEONE closed the lid on the bucket for a day and a half... now it is blagh and I can't get it to work again

Can you imagine a ff drunk duck?? Lol

Should I keep mine in the back laundry room?  It's a little cooler than the rest of the house.  It gets cold here in the winter and we have a pellet stove.  I'm afraid it may get too warm if I don't put it back there.  I may get to about 50 degrees (in the back room) in the dead of winter.  Any opinions?
I think room temperature would work best...50 degrees could cause it to slow down or go dormant.

That would probably be pretty scary. :gig

If it smells "off", I'd just start another batch. And make sure it can breathe.

One time I used Feather Fixer in my fermentation bucket. OMG! Do not ever ferment feather fixer! The smell was gagging! Very sulphuric. Another time I tried fermenting beet pulp. Huge mistake. It expanded so much, I though it was going to come after me. Never try to ferment beet pulp!

Normal FF does get more sour smelling as it passes its peak. But it doesn't mean it's bad.

Haha that's so funny
Now I will be careful because I have feather fixer in my feed cupboard

Well I've started over now, I might try more brewers yeast this time
