Help!!!! What is going on after treating for mites!!!!!

I have just run into this! I'm worried I can't seem to find any help on this. I've never had so much trouble with my chickens but it really is one thing after another! I noticed this hen started walking around puffed up. I thought it might be cooler weather but I checked her and under her wings and there is a horrible smell! her vent is dry. I believe there must be mites but the lighting wasn't great. I have pyrethrin powder but I'm not sure its helped much.
Get a soft wash cloth and get it wet with warm water. Wipe away the yellow crust and any gross grey gunk with the wash cloth. Hair dry the hen so she doesn't get to cold. Wet hens who are ill, or mite ridden, can't keep them selves warm as well, and could get hypothermia if wet. I learned that the hard way. If the wiping is hurting them then jus too th best you can, and spray under the wings with Vetrycin 1-2 times daily, until it disappears. Look and make sure there are no maggots under there too. This worked for me, and I had the exact same issue as you. If you use permethrin to treat of mites, DO NOT USE DERVET PERMETHRIN! Dervet contains gasoline and is toxic to you and your chickens! I didn't realize this until after I sprayed mine down, and looked at the ingredients because of the smell. Use any other brand, NOT DERVET! Hope this helps! 😁

Thank you weeg! I have given her a bath and dried her. I cleaned the skin under her wings the smell is mostly gone and a lot of skin sloughed off. Right now I don't have the money to purchase any antibacterial sprays. The closest thing I have Blue kote which I've used twice so far . the skin under her wings seems to still be drying and falling off and today her crop wasn't full even though there's plenty of feed. She seems to be following suit of my two Deathlayers who I treated but still lost. I know these hens are on the bottom of the pecking order but they free range in a pretty big fenced yard and I only have about about 15 chickens.
I had just stripped the entire coop (its a a pretty big shed) but I'm gonna do it again and spray everything though none of my other chickens are exhibiting any of the issues this poor hen has. I did still treat her and the others with powdered pyrethrin even though I haven't found any mites on any of the healthy looking birds.

Glad you got some treatment done! Blue Kote is probably fine, you can also apply Neosporin or another antibacterial ointment to the wings. The skin falling off is normal, the gas in the permethrin probably killed it so it is dying, and falling off. So glad she is doing better!

There is no gasoline in Durvet permethrin:

Here is a picture, its not labeled gasoline, but it is labeled petroleum Distillates. Sorry, its not pure gasoline, but it smells like it, gives you a headache like it, and is still toxic. It is likely what cause the skin to die, and burn.

-Skin disease: Petroleum distillates are skin defatting agents and can cause dermatitis on prolonged exposure. ... They may also cause irritation of the eyes, throat, and skin. 2. Long-term Exposure: Prolonged overexposure may cause drying and cracking of the skin.- On Google

This is why I was calling it gasoline. It is not the same thing but both aren't good for you, nor I would want to spray on my chickens.

In this sense, most petroleum products – gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene and jet fuel–are, to some degree, distillates. The process by which they are produced involves heating crude oil and allowing it to rise in a tower-like chamber.

She’s doing the same as the other two I lost. She’s hiding more and I don’t think she’s eating or drinking unless I take her to the feed or water. Her skin all over has dried yellowed flakes but no injuries underneath. I’ve seen no mites and I only used the poultry mite powder. I Can’t figure this out and I really don’t want to lose this hen. I’ve been hunting everywhere but I can’t find my book on poultry disease, I have no idea what this is.
