help with chickens coop temp!

I'm new to chickens too. I have Red Golden Pheasants and Ringneck doves and now Barred Rocks!:) I don't consider myself by no means to be an chicken expert. I liked the pictures of your set up. The folks here are a great resource. Observe your chicks. You'll know they are happy by their cheeps. The coop my chicks are in is a 'resurrected' old coop. The roof and floor have been replaced, unoccupied for at least 15 yrs. There are 4 nesting boxes. They have an enclosed yard to explore that is covered overhead because of the rural setting, hawks are a big threat. The sidewalls are also fortified against burrowing predators. (Raccoons are nasty). My peeps were raised in a watering trough with pine shavings in a heated horse tack room that served as the brooder environment. Kind of like a TSC set-up. I could tell they were getting too warm in the posh environment. Man when I turned them loose, last week - wow what a difference, I'm sure the warmer temps have helped.

Im 17 so money is limited,
You should put pics of your chicks!
What do you feed your chickens?

Hi Alihbaloch - Sorry for the delayed response. I haven't been here for a little while. Feed for the chicks - Buckeye Nutrition Chick Crumbles. We get feed from a feed store that grinds the grains, etc and mixes the feeds. Many times that is a more affordable way of getting feed and it is fresh.

Here is a pic of my Barred Rock chicks at 6 and half weeks old. Out in the 'yard'. We had some left over metal roofing sheets to make
walls for an enclosure. We live out in the country so predators are a concern. Once they get older we'll probably let them free range when we are around and then put them in the yard and coop in the evening. These gals have really worked the grass over.
