My father FINALLY took me up on spending time with him for Father's Day this year. He's always extremely busy, and rarely takes the time to just relax and have a good time. He has serious "guilt issues" if he stops to smell the roses, so to speak. So last year he didn't take me up on it, but this year he finally said, yes, we'll spend the day together. So I have NO IDEA what to get him. I even asked him outright, and of course he said "nothing", even though I pressed. He's not your typical dad, he doesn't play golf, he doesn't watch sports, he doesn't wear ties, and really doesn't even have hobbies, other than tinkering on used cars, and even that he hires someone else to do now that he's older. He doesn't collect anything. It's really ridiculous. The only thing I can think of is a case of beer, which he'll appreciate but I want to do something more than that obviously. He's very cheap, so I'd like to get him something he would never splurge on himself. ANY ideas? I know it's not much to go on. I thought of a Home Depot gift card, etc., but it seems kind of lame and he'd just spend it on sandpaper or something stupid, and I'd really rather give him something to remember, as he isn't getting any younger. I know he'd be happy with a sweet card, which of course I will get, and I plan to take him out for a steak dinner, but any other ideas???? [IMG]

I'd help if I could but I am clueless. My dad has disliked every gift he has ever received. [IMG] I have not bought the old grouch anything in years.

I dont know..a home depot card is a good idea, IMO..
Its less money he will have to spend if he needs anything there..
Case of beer/ home depot card/ sreak dinner....
I bet he'd be happy with that!!
Or a gift card for a restaurant that he really likes....
Is he a gambler? Lottery tickets? [IMG]
I dont know... dads are tough to buy for! mine is the SAME way!

I think an evening out to dinner with my daughter would be a nice gift and nothing else is needed!

Quote:He probably would be happy with that (home depot card, steak dinner & a case of beer). I guess it's ME who wants to do something more special. I honestly don't recall EVER spending a Father's Day with him. He's always been a workaholic, he even worked on Christmas. And he has helped me out A LOT this last year of owning my new home, not financially, but coming over to help with things, and even carting me around when my Jeep was out of commission. I just want to do something special. [IMG]

Oh, and I like the lottery ticket idea. He certainly does love money!! Maybe a few scratch cards....

My Daddy is the same way.

We're taking him out to eat. My Father-In-Law loves to fish, so we are taking him fishing.

Photo book of the two of you together? I do one for my mom on Shutterfly, but there are other places that do it as well.
