Help with our bantam — Nothing is working

I might be vent gleet or not.

When did you last deworm your flock and what exactly did you use for how long?
Worm infestations can cause diarrhea, nutrient and vitamin deficiency, lethargy and neurological symptoms, crop disorders, horribly smelling feces etc.

Thank you! We just deworm if we know we have worms in one of our chickens. We do have Safeguard and Ivermectin on hand if the consensus is we should try deworming to see if that helps her. What do you think?

This morning my husband noticed her crop was swollen - seemed to just be air - so he spent some time massaging it. She seemed lethargic and sleepy this morning which makes me very nervous. We are keeping her on water with drench and ACV today to see if that helps.

Any tips on if it is a crop issue? My husband thinks it just happened today, as he would have noticed and has been handling her every day.

She is definitely egg bound and needs a vet. I have had 2 Bantams egg bound one I got unbound with what you are doing, but the other had to have surgery. Bless her and you.

I'm sorry to have to give this update but she got much worse since this morning unfortunately (labored breathing, eyes closed, not able to stand, not eating/drinking). We decided to ease her of any suffering before it got worse.

We are both really sad as she was our favorite girl and had such a fun personality (and was obviously beautiful too). But thanks to you all we feel like we did everything we possibly could to help her and make her comfortable.

Thanks for all of your help + advice ♥️

One last bit of info for anyone that was wondering what caused her rapid decline, my husband did a necropsy and it looked very much like these (graphic) photos of oviduct impaction (but there was no formed egg, just a large mass blocking her vent).

Seems that she would have needed surgery to heal from this, so it is a bit of a relief that we did what we could.

Thanks again!

Well done to spare her lots of suffering!

I am very sorry that you lost your favourite girl. Sometimes there is just nothing we can do to help but put them out of their misery as a last friendly turn. :hugs
