Hen attacked by dog, open wound help

Great I'll look for that spray online. Here is a better picture. For the record this is 2 1/2 days after the attack

Looks pretty good. I think the green is bruising. But I would trim the feathers back to keep them out of the wound. Either the Microcyn or the Veterycin would be good to use now. I'd continue using them until the wound starts to scab over well.

Sounds like she's doing good without any sort of antibiotic!

And yep, that's looking like bruising. That's the bilirubin in the blood. You guys are doing really good! Keep up the good work. : 3 b

Update on Sunshine. We are nearly 5 days post attack and I'm optimistic about the outcome. She's moving around her new pen, her appetite increased, and the wound looks healthy. I've stopped applying the antibiotic ointment. The wound got pretty dry and scabbed over since then but I got the Veterycin in the mail.. I wonder if it is pointless to use it at this stage?

She is looking really good, you are doing a wonderful job.:ya
I agree to stop the ointment, but would use the Veterycin spray for awhile.

Seconded on stopping ointment but continuing with vetrycin. In my experience, I've found vetrycin to be pretty weak, benign stuff for poultry.

Just about out of the woods here. Good job! That wound looks GREAT.

Thank you all for your encouragement! I'm pleased with her progress. In fact she took us by surprise today.. Well, as of this morning she's housed in an open 3x3' box in the basement with the necessities. (My daughter loves this because she's right in her quiet reading area, where I store her put away books and things. She "reads" to Sunshine and sings to her :love ) apparently it wasn't quite to her liking so she hopped out and found herself a nice roost on the back of an open stair. I laugh imagining her walking quietly around the corner from her pen and flapping her way through my bakeware storage- she knocked some pans down, and found herself a little seat. We quickly added a roost to her box and taped the sides up.
Anyway, she seems to be feeling OK:thumbsup when can she get back out with the girls? I'm in no rush and I don't want to risk her getting further injury but I'm sure she would be happier with them. I'm planning to make or buy a saddle to protect the area while it continues to heal, especially because she's at the bottom of the pecking order and I know the others will be reminding her of that. Starting slow, supervising, of course... anything else I may need to know? Are maggots still a risk?
