I had a hen who had been sitting on eggs for over a month now, the first set got eaten my a snake on day 5 so I went and gave her some more. Day 13/15 I went and checked on her and she broke 2 eggs with babies in them, we thought maybe the other chickens did it so we moved her and her eggs to a new place. Day 20 or so I checked this morning and the last egg with a baby in it had been broken and the baby was laying In the next next to her. I couldn’t find the eggshell and It’s feet were tucked in and it’s head also. I’m guessing it didn’t hatch just yet. Why did she do this? We are going to go ahead and break her broody because she can’t seem to not break the eggs.

It's hard to tell what goes on inside a chicken's mind. Is it a first-time mother? Maybe it rejected the eggs or didn't think they were viable.

I had a broody hen a couple day ago, gave her some eggs and when I came back in two days she had moved off them and they were cold. Are you sure the eggs were fertilized?

Was there a good 3 or 4 inches of straw or hay in the brody's nest to cushion them against the hard floor surface?
Did the hatching eggs have good hard shells?
What breed is your broody?
Maybe she is a bad mom or maybe it's something else.
There was plenty of straw/shavings to make sure they couldn’t get smashed on the bottom, they were super nice eggs nothing wrong with them. She is an Easter egger who has gone broody before as stated by her previous owner. Im started to think she is just a bad mom. Her last owner put baby chicks under her when she went broody and she killed the chicks, but I think it’s because she didn’t wait long enough for the hen to actually think she hatched eggs. She really wants to be a mom she just seems to be bad at it.

She is a first time mom, I had checked the eggs because one was running late and the chick was moving just fine. I know you’re not supposed to touch them so I didn’t pick it up I just put a light to it :( was hoping that would be the one she actually hatched. I’m just not sure why I couldn’t find the eggshell from the chick.
