We have 24 chickens in which 10 are only about 3 months old. We have one hen who has had broken feathers all over her back for about 4 months or longer and today I noticed that under her neck area and under her she has alot of patches of missing feather where the skin is bald and very red. I looked very close to see if she has mites or lice and I dont see any.
Our adult Rooster died about month and have ago and he was quarantined for close to 2 months but poor guy died due to having canker along the right side inside his beak. We tried everything to kill it and save him but he got to where he stopped eating or drinking water on his own so sadly we had to put our friend down.
Any any ideas to what this can be? We have had molting before but never like this.

Most of those I can see are feathers coming in. I can see little "tufts" at the top of the shafts.

Perhaps the rooster did this, and she's getting them back now, or else, she's going through a molt. Molting usually starts at the head.

A higher protein diet can help with feather growth. We use 20% protein all flock for all of our chicks/chickens, whereas layer is usually around 16%. Otherwise, you can feed her/them some higher protein treats like some scrambled eggs, canned tuna in water, a little bit of canned cat food, a few mealworms per day, etc.
