Hi after reading this post, I am guessing my black sex link is also a rooster, but would still like to confirm before we have to find it a new home. 12 weeks old View attachment 1066817 View attachment 1066818
Yes, that's a cockerel.

Did you get yours at TS too???Hi after reading this post, I am guessing my black sex link is also a rooster, but would still like to confirm before we have to find it a new home. 12 weeks old View attachment 1066817 View attachment 1066818
Definitely a barred rock and looks like a rooster, very occasionally you can have a hen that crows, but that's extremely uncommon. My black sex link hens are all black with some red feathers on their chest from the red side of their breed.Hi! we thought we purchased six (guaranteed) pullets but one is starting to crow and act like a rooster. The photos attached are of an eleven week old black sex link; he/she looks 100% Barred Rock. Can anyone identify if this is a hen or rooster at this age? Thanks in advance for any help!!! We can't keep a rooster so we're hoping it's a hen that acting like a roosterView attachment 1066085 View attachment 1066086 ...we've read that it's not common but also not impossible. We don't want to get rid of this very friendly chicken if she's a hen.

Purebred Barred Rock males have two copies of the barring gene, giving them a lighter appearance. Male black sexlinks only get a single copy of the gene (from their Barred Rock mother) so they have a similar appearance of a Barred Rock, not quite.Definitely a barred rock and looks like a rooster, very occasionally you can have a hen that crows, but that's extremely uncommon. No I got mine at Wilco.Did you get yours at TS too???
Forgot to mention that this chicken is about 13 weeks old.So we're now not feeling so sure about this lovely creature being a hen. She/he is not crowing but has some familiar traits to the rooster. Your thoughts on if this one is a hen or a rooster?
