Hen with egg yolk on her comb

I was examining a hen and I discovered egg yolk on her comb...fresh. And I discovered half an empty egg shell that has clearly been eaten partly buried underneath pine shavings in the coop.
Was she the one who ate the egg?

If she can't offer a suitable explanation, she is probably guilty. She may have had accomplices but they were smarter to cover their tracks.
