Hens or Roos???

Hello!

We are so new to this, and received our chicks through our 4H project. It turns out that quite of few the chicks in our project are turning out to be roosters

...that would be a bummer for us, as we cannot keep roosters at all.

I will post some pics, and hopefully some of you experienced chicken keepers can comfort my worries

. Both chicks are approx. 9-10 weeks old. Pepper is a silver laced Wyandotte, and Snowball a Leghorn (Bantam, I believe).

Update 3/19/12...Both are HENS!!! Both are laying now...thanks all!

they both look like pullets so far

both look like pullets to me at this point. Snowball looks more like a buff orpington to me then a Leghorn.

So far, they look like girls. But, I don't think the second one is a leghorn of any kind.

You know, I do not think Snowball is a Leghorn either, since she does NOT look like any others when I compare. I did find a pic somewhere of a Bantam Leghorn, she looked similar. I will look up Orpingtons :O...never heard of them! Since we were not involved in the "picking" of the breeds (you can read our story on how we came to chickens in my intro), I am googling everything CHICKEN!!!

You are right! These do look like Snowball, funny butt and scruffy head...

She is the tamer of the two, and like to sit with me.

Snowball is a pullet. Pepper may be too, but those tail feathers look rather pointy for a girl... I am not sure.
