Hens roosting in the run

1 is just staying on the floor. She made a nest and sleeps there. She doesn't lay eggs in it just spends the nights there

I've got a floor sleeper -- the Light Brahma in my avatar.

I suspect that she's too large to comfortably spread her wings and fly up to the roost in my 4'x4' coop and am curious to know if she'll change her ways when they move to the new "Chicken Palace". :D

If possible might want to consider lifting that a bit more, unless there's other vents. If the coop is 4x7, you're at... 3.6 sq ft of ventilation with that 2" gap. For 9 chickens you'd want closer to 9 sq ft, which might be tough to fit in such a way that it's protected through winter weather as well.
I also have 2 large windows and 2 small windows that i close in winter. My run is built very strong and has a covered roof. Wonder if i need the raised plywood at all?

Any vent that is not open 24/7/365 doesn't count as part of the recommended 1 square foot per adult, standard-sized hen. :)

Supplemental ventilation is good to have, especially in the summer, but they need fresh air all day and all night year round.
