Here comes the FLOOD!

Cora will be going soon enough to the "Annex" to stay. She has buddies at home to play with, but she is used to having a whole lot of yard to play in. Yes, we are putting up stuff in the big house, the water is supposed to be up in it this weekend or the first part of the week. We never dreamed it would get so high, and didn't move anything out of the house, only stuff from ground level. The cars right now are on the outside of the levee. We don't have to worry about them usually because the water doesn't come up fast back here, there is too much lower land, and we always have plenty of time to get them out.

Wow, amazing what a little rain can do when it just won't stop raining. I sure do feel bad for you all and all the others in this area. I hope that you all (animals included) all get out safe. Things can be replaced (yes it will take a while) but you can not replace life.
We just recently got 2 buckeye hens from Ann Charles that came from you. Your posting caught my attention as to whether or not you were the same Jen Scott that the buckeye came from or not. We'll be praying for you.

One more explanation. Here is a satellite map of our area during normal times, and again (photoshopped) the area between the levees that is now almost completely covered with water. In truth, it is very brown water right now. That's a lot of water.

Now I have to get to work, since I'm at work.

She is the ONLY Jen Scott we know of with Buckeyes!

Spoke with Jen yesterday about moving the incubators...plural, incubatersssss. Boat ride to the levee, then a mile or so to the annex. I suggested firing up a hovabator and use it to keep teh eggs warm til she can get them back into the Sportsmans. Not sure I would want to haul a sportsman in a boat. One wrong move and folks in Louisiana gets a new incubator!

Question: Who wants to bet that if she drops the incubator, she dives in after it?

Well, made it in by boat in the dark. Looks like the water is up to the roof line on Beulah house. After several days of a loud buzz in the telephone line from water in the line I guess, It finally went out completely today when the grease in the connection box lost the battle with the mighty Mississippi. Too bad the cell phones don't work dependably back here, At least I have my satellite connection until the electricity goes, but we'll be out of here by then. I will be getting the last of the brooders out. I hope to finish the current hatch before I have to take the incubator out. Son-in-law showed up tonight to help get stuff out, as well as some other friends who are in for round two. One of the first things on the agenda in the morning is a run to the lumber yard for more 2x4's for more saw horses. My gosh I knew we had a lot of stuff, but this is ridiculous. I need to just close my eyes and start pitching. The hardest part is trying to decide where to start. Well, there are a few things I know will come first, like the bear.

Oh Jen, I'm sorry to hear all this is happening!! Keeping my fingers crossed that the water stays below the house and you can get all the other stuff done and out!!!!

just joined the forum so i could stalk this thread - and i saw where someone asked what the house looks like without water..... so here are some pics! well, obviously i don't have enough posts so..... here is a link to some pics!

these are older photos, before the new roof and the closed in porches were added. the really green one is shot from the driveway as you come in. the lil cabin in front is beulah house from the rear. the other photo is from appx same time period and is the back of the house. the water gets high enough to cover the concrete steps almost every year when the river comes in.....
