Here comes the FLOOD!

I have been to Mosquito Beach several times. It is a very quiet and beautiful spot on God's green earth! In spite of the floods every 3 years or so, it would be a nice place to live. However, I am thankful I am a bit higher up and not in any threat of 50 plus feet of flood water.

Amazing pictures. In spite of the water, I can understand why you would live there, but then, green is my favorite color.
Hope you have a spot to dry your boots at night.

How funny....green is my favorite color also.

Jen....I cannot imagine what ya'll go through during times like this. At least your house is built up high!! And how wonderful you have a place to take your livestock.

I live up on a small mountain in North Central Arkansas. The weather has been awful and I have complained about the water and the coops being soaking wet inside.....but I think I will keep my mouth shut now about that!

The best of luck to you and yours!

We did some measurements and some calculations, and unfortunately, it looks like we may very well end up with water in the house, in spite of its height. Last night we had 7.5 ft from the top of the water to the porch, with another 8.5 feet predicted rise.

Wishing ya'll the best of luck & I hope the water stops rising!!!

It's starting to look like we may get it too as we live on the bayou & the water is rising. Making preperations now. The last flood here was in 1973, but all the water from up north will end up here.

Snakes? I would watch out for the gators! A 15'+ alligator was captured about 10 miles from Jen's a few years ago. I needed a wildlife officer a few days ago and he had to catch an alligator first. I would be more cautious of looking for gators than snakes!

Prayers for you safety! Living in wonderful places sometimes has it's drawbacks.... but the good out-weighs the bad. If it didn't we wouldn't stay, would we?

My 4 little Buckeyes are thriving. Out of the 150 or so chicks I have hatched this year they are by far the sassiest.

I received several good pecks yesterday, from them, as I was banding chicks. I don't think they liked me upsetting everyone.

Wow, Jen. I hope it doesn't get up in your house! We're thinking about you and praying. How long does it take for all that water to go down after the flood?
