Here comes the FLOOD!

Buffalo Gnats are so named because of the hump on their backs. A couple of my old threads from previous years have been resurrected. They cause big bumps on me, I can't imagine having hundreds of bites, which is what happens to the chickens.

Well, The water is dropping, officially it is down 2.8 feet. We have been in the house the last couple of days moving things, trying to get all the carpet torn up and out so the floors can dry. What's going to happen to the tile I laid a few years ago? It looks like most of the house got about 18 inches maybe, just at the level of the electrical outlets. The moisture and mold on the sheet rock walls is over three feet. The pecan tongue and groove in the living room is buckling.

To add injury to insult, Angel, one of the goats caught me offguard with a lunge toward the milk stand this morning and I fell and twisted my ankle. 800 mg of Ibuprofen and some rest later and I can walk again. I hope its just a minor sprain. Time will tell. We're getting so much milk I'm having trouble keeping up with it. With the work at Mosquito Beach House I don't seem to be able to fiind the time for the long awaited cheese making, so I have been making a lot of Vinegar Cheese, at least it takes up less room in the freezer than the milk. I gave some milk to my daughter, Buff Beauty, she is supposed to be making some soap, I hope to be able to try some out soon (hint, hint).

Here you can see the receding water line.

If you look close, you can see one of the 36" fans in the front door trying to dry out the house.

Water level in the hall, with blistered drywall.

On another note, saying prayers for all those in Joplin, MO, who suffered in last night's tornado.

Unless water got underneath it....
Maybe you can somehow pull them up..(carefully) and then re-lay them when the sub-floor is dry....
If you leave the tile down...i'd worry about the sub-floor being wet underneath the tile.... i'd pull them up...

*sigh* You poor poor lady... what a haul you have ahead..

Bless your heart you have alot of work ahead of you!! I am assuming that you have insurance to cover all of this? I am praying that you do. Just glad to know that everyone is doing okay and made it through. I second your comment on those in Joplin and unfortunately according to the weather pattern it's not over for them yet.

I have not been online in a while....busy with all those chicks I hatched this year.....oh, my..where to put them all!

I am online today just to check on you because I have been wondering how things were going. I am so sorry you are going through all this and my prayers are with you and your family!

We stopped by her shop the other day. Had to drop off some SQ Egg Swap Thread eggs. Decided not to ship them to her.

Jen told me that the water is now off the concrete slab under the house.

Sign on the Shop door says they are on vacation this week. Jen said she will be cleaning things up at the beach house and lots of other projects. They were to already have the wet carpet etc ripped out. Will be a lot of clean up work I am sure. When we seen Jen she was here normal cheerful, smiling self. Even agreed to hatch some eggs for us that will not fit in our incubator.

Hi guys, thanks for the well wishes, I lost a bunch of chicks today and I swear it has me more upset than the whole house thing. Well, the water is down which means the mosquitoes are up, we can drive to the house now. We now have the air conditioner unning and as hot as it is, it runs a lot and dehumidifies a lot. The guineas love being able to run around and TRY to forage, but there isn't much for them right now, so they still appreciate the grocery runs. For those of you who don't know, I am also in the middle of trying to open a store right now, and it has been hard to find time to get anything done. Once we get the initial clean up done, we are probably going to hire most of the work done because of time constraints. We will just get the work done as budget allows. It looks like we will probably haul the rest of the furniture out of the house to be stored and just gut the house. Not much else to be done. If that's the case, I may just take the opportunity to do a little remodeling, make the kitchen a little bigger. DH is still not sure he wants to invest the money back in the house. We will sure make sure we can insure it this time before we put too much into it.

Remind me to do that.

Jen, call Farm Bureau!

We did get a look at her new store, next door to her shop. Lots of colors and lots and lots of room. Just a few yards from our main hwy intersection. Hoping business is booming for you!

Sorry about the chicks. Was it the buffalo gnats? or the heat?
