HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Quote: This one should be white or maybe paint spots will show up later , I guess that happens sometimes. This is my first experience with Paint Silkie breeding so I am learning as i go. Im not used to the light pigment on Silkies so this one looks strange to me lol! It has some pigment filling in though. I would say that from your breeding your would be white. The buff and blue dont have this coloring as chicks

Well my hatch day would have been yesterday. So I candled one last time, not expecting to see anything. Since this was my first hatch, I let the eggs go the whole 21 days, but I knew they were not going to hatch. I did everything right, but they were shipped eggs. So I took them outside and opened them up. Nothing. They never even tried to start. No blood, no spots, nothing. They just looked like yolks. The whites were watery and the yolks were broke easy. I thought they might not be fertile but I could not find the spot on the yolks to tell. 19 eggs and not a single one tried to start. Oh well. Anyone else have experience with anything like this? Thanks.

That is weird. What kind of incubator? What was your temp and humidity at during 0-18 days and then 19-21 days? Did you take any pictures?

I had a batch of shipped eggs like that earlier this year also. None showed any sign of development. they were shipped from someone I know and am sure most of them would have been fertile. I can only guess it had something to do with the shipping though i have had good luck with shipped eggs in the past. Another batch had badly damaged air cells :( Only hatched a few from them. I have had much better luck hatching my own eggs but of course I want some others to hatch to add to my lines.

From what I have heard it is almost impossible to sex silkies. They say that the only way to tell is when they start crowing or laying eggs.

The shipper thinks her roo was infertile from molting. So she is sending me a refund which is really nice of her. I actually ordered chicks and they will be here this week so I an excited to have more babies. I ordered the "adopt me" special from Meyer so they could be LF, bantam or even turkeys. We will see.

I'll give it a shot Kay! I've got a 50/50 chance, right??? Ha! Ha!

OK I am going to guess a little Roo. These are my reasons why:

1. the comb bump (how wide is it - do you have a straight on shot?)
2. the wattles - the little pullets usually don't have wattles at all though some of the beardless do have little ones
3. The beak looks boyish to me

At 2 1/2 months old though it is strictly a guess though.
