LOL Roxanne!! That is something I would do. I am just about done with mine too. I have the same idea of having the run separate from the coop. I actually am trying to save some money by using pallets. Wood is so darn expensive. Last week I was at Lowes and they told me I could have all the free pallets I wanted as long as they didn't have yellow on them (returnable ones.) So I ended up hauling home 2 BIG ones and 2 smaller ones. The wood on them is in good shape but pulling the boards out is such a pain. My justification is the fact that a sheet of plywood costs $22 and the pallets are free.

That happened in my last hatch. Started with 15 and ended up with 7 and then only 1 hatched. Do not go into lock down early if the one is ahead. If you go into lock down you are taking a chance on drowning the others. Hard lesson learned.

I ask because my husband says no more after these but I still will want a few more plus I figure if I hatch now, well assume the next batch comes out mid to late Nov. then those I want to keep will be growing and the others will be some 4+ months old and then I can sell them off for a little more come spring because they will be a little older and you will be able to tell what they look like and or sex.

Or is this just the addiction talking

I keep saying this will be my last hatch for the year but I also keep thinking if I do another batch they will be closer to laying age come spring and more people are looking for chickens at that time, and more chickens means more eggs, and more chickens means less bugs, and more chickens means.... LOL. I think we can come up with a million reasons why we want to hatch more. It really is addicting!

..... I am completely overboard as it is ... I'm literally stalking ebay listings for blue eggs and green eggs and olive eggs and ..... now I've decided I need a breed of chicken that makes a good broody (that's not a silkie coz I think Florida is toooo hot for those silkies) .... oh my WORD!!!!! Build, build, build, .... feed bill is look a little elevated of late!!!

I had asked the lady that I got my eggs from locally about silkies and the heat (I was worried too) and she said they do just fine in Florida. LOL.

p.s Do you have an idea on what would be a good broody (or 2 or 3) to get .... just sayin, coz the buff brahma were calling my name quite loudly!!!
