HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Is it harder to candle blue/green eggs? It is only day 4, but I see nothing different then before I set them. Just a dark form at the large end of the eggs. I know there would only be veins at this point, but would I see them through this color shell? Hope day 7 is more exciting.
Yes it is depending on how dark the color is. The more color the harder it is. AT day 4 it is hard to see anything but by day 7 you should see veining and a little dark spot that moves. These pictures tell you what to expect to see on each day.

I candled 10 of my 42 today on day 4 (couldn't help myself!) and 8 of 10 either had a visible embryo or veining of some kind. SO excited! I ended up consolidating my two bators and I have two eggs that didn't fit in the automatic turner so they are sitting to the side of it and I'm turning those two by hand while the rest take a ride. So far so good...

I received 10 eggs from Catdance on August 30th. My first try! I don't have an incubator but I do have a wonderful broody hen, Lacy, who took them on. I am so excited about these eggs and hopefully some very cute Silkies and only 10 more days to go. But...

I've had a terrible day!!!

One of Catdance eggs fell out of the nest and broke open and of all ten eggs it was one that actually had a living breathing growing chick in it

I am beside myself I can't believe how sad I am. It only had 10 more days to go. I just am speechless to how I'm feeling right now. Here is what would have been...

I also think I have a Lavender egg that is clear with no dark spot in it. I should pitch it right?

My hen really wants to hatch!!!! She is just sitting there doing nothing. I hope she is drinking water cause I hear silkies will some times want to hatch sooo bad that they starve there selfs or die of thirst!!!!! Scary

I read somewhere that you should get her out so she can stretch her legs, eat, drink, and poop. That's what we do every day we get our Lacy out and she quickly eats, drinks, poops and goes right back in and sits again.

It is heartbreaking when something like this happens but there is always a reason. By day 10, if the egg is fertile, you should be seeing something like this:

Those are great picture. Maybe my light is not bright enough. I think I will mention to my sons that I need one of those light boxes. They like projects. Thanks.
