update from me - went ahead and didd eggtopsy's today. It helps me confirm my candling abilities & conclusions.

started with 32 - went into lockdown with 18 (other 14 had been eggtopsied at @ 2wks (confirming no delevelopement) - felt like I had 15 with high hopes, the other three appeared to have some developement but I had not been seeing any movement for some time prior to lockdown (but I didn't give up on them)

13 = hatched
2 = no hatch - moving going into lockdown = eggtopsy confirmed full development (these are the ones that bother me the most & make me wonder, why? )
2 showed to have been developing up to maybe a week and a half to 2wks
1 showed to have maybe developed up to a week, week and a half.

So, overall I feel like I've got the candling thing down and feel more confident in making the calls.
The 2 that didn't hatch...had they absorbed the yolks or internally pipped?

CAN ANYONE HELP ? i am worried about that blue silkie that was due with the other one yesterday . i can see it moving when i candle it but i can see a lot of air sac so can see into the egg more than normal ?? can anyone help with that ? do some chicks have more air sac than others as i have never seen that ????? and what shall i do i dont want to loose it

Is there any way someone can hold the egg being candled and you take a picture and then post a pic of the air sac?

Um, well see I am still learning, didn't really think about that but I think maybe, that at least one had absorbed the yolk, maybe. It's belly/backend appeared enlarged. Didn't really notice on the other. Not much came out of the shell other than the chick and both still were in the sack. I guess you mean by internal pip that maybe you can see something inside the hard shell? Didn't think about looking at the shells.

Wow! This place is rocking. I need a faster Internet to catch up on all the news. I love seeing the pictures.

I have three pips tonight, day 21 tomorrow. 4 americauna and 22 marans made it to lock down...but I didn't cable that last week so I am not sure how many quit. These were shipped, so I am holding my breath.

Wondering if I will be waking up to chirping.

How long do you leave your hatched babies inside? It makes me nervous having them knocking the other eggs around.

Internal pip is when they have broken through into the air cell. When you do your eggtopsy always start at the very top because then you can see if that happened.

Yay! If you don't mind me asking, what do you have on the bottom of the incubator. I have had a problem with the slippery surface of the mini brinsea and am looking for ideas.
It looks like a paper towel that she is using. I just go to the dollar store or Walmart and buy a roll of shelf liner (the rubber stuff.) Excellent traction for the chicks and it makes clean up much easier and you can even wash it to reuse if you want.

Mine are still there ( hatched this morning and through the day), I will take them out in the morning. I only had 5 eggs in the incubator so plenty of room to run around.
when they say lockdown I assume it mean to not open the incubator until the hatch is done. Mine will come out tomorrow even if the other egg hasnt hatched. I will then check that egg and see if I think it is going to hatch.
