Do 7 wk old cocks really start to crow that young ?

I had just seen a video the other day of a 4 week old trying to crow and I couldn't believe it. When I walked outside this morning and heard mine trying I was just as surprised. It is not a real crow but you know they are trying when you hear it.

Here is one of two brooders that I built this summer after being inspired by another post. I made them big enough so that I could also use them to separate out adults if ever needed (if they were empty).

Two Americauna chicks out this morning. No pips on the other two yet.

Here is one of my black copper marans just coming out. 3 out so far and 5 more pipped. Worried about the lack of space in there. I want to take them out now, but the eco glows don't emit much heat... and it is cold here in Michigan. I am afraid they are going to freeze.

My other eggs go into lock down on Monday. Both Brooders are ready and waiting.

Received my second batch of shipping eggs yesterday ..........................

...........1 Roo and 3 laying hens - well, they're not supposed to be laying coz they're in molt) laid an egg this morning ... soooooooooooooooooooooooo .... I just had to put in 11 of my own eggs (including my single purebred delight - the Delaware) in the 2nd bator that I fired up about a week ago to test the turner (I found an unused turner stored away) ... soooo as of this morning 11 of my eggs and once I've given my shipped eggs 24 hours to settle, I'll put them in the bator this afternoon ... mmmmmmh total of 28 eggs in my 2nd bator!!!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh and I have some Production Red/EE pullets that just layed this week for the first time and they're only about 17 weeks - ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh you should see the colour of the egg .... like a dirty green - not exactly Olive but much darker and dirtier looking than the EE green .... yay, yay, yay, my egg basket is looking VERY friendly with all the colour ..... can't wait for my Marans to start laying

The VERY first thing my lovely DH said to me this morning when he woke up was .... "Sweet, please no more chickens ... I dreamed all night that there were chickens hatching and hatching all over our property ...... please no more chickens for now ...." .......

Very nice brooder!! Once I finish building my chicken tractors a brooder will be next. Congrats on the new fuzzy butts! I have Marans hatching next week.

Ha Ha... that is one of my biggest problems at the moment.... have no adult coop/ pens.... have them all planned in my head but life took a crazy turn the last 5 weeks and I have not got it done yet. My 6 week olds are going crazy right now. I have 8-10 in both the top and bottom of that brooder. Working on renovating an old 10x10 shed right now so that I can get them moved. Hope to get it done by Sunday. I get all my ideas from this site because I am a novice.

I can easily sketch you out a "how to" drawing for the brooder and postal mail it to you, just pm me. I am not a techy... so my hand drawn sketch will have to suffice.

Lucky you for the eggs. Mine won't start laying until Dec./ Jan if I am lucky. Post a picture of the green eggs. Would love to see them. I am in the process of ordering more RIR eggs that will hopefully go into the bator the first week of October. When I started my Marans and Silkie eggs I had 25 in the bator so I know how you feel. I really need to get busy and build the 4 more chicken tractors I need. Go here and look at this lady's tractors. They look fairly simple to make. WHen I contacted her she said they were 3' x 8' and she is using them for grow out and breeding pens. She has 1 Roo and 3 hens in one.
Tell your DH no more chickens after this but you would like to start some homegrown 'ham" to go with those green eggs.
