HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

I started having hatching nightmares 3 days ago. I normally don't have dreams that I remember but the "hatching" dreams of late have been terrible. They hatch and some horrible looking creature takes them out of the incubator and runs off with them.
Brooks that's terrible! Get out of her brain satan!!! God give her a peaceful, sweet, birth for her babies and no more bad nightmares for her. Amen.

Here are my 8 black copper marans and 4 Americaunas.

Here is my #13 hatch. It only unzipped 3/4 by itself... but it kept looking at me and chirping so after 12 hours or so, I unzipped it the rest of the way and it got itself out. So, of course I shouldnt have helped...usually if they cant get out...it is a sign, right? Well, this liitle guy has one leg that splays out to the side. I have a splint on it. It is difficult to make out from the picture, but it is almost like the entire left hip is out of socket. Even when braced, that left side heaves when it tries to move. Are they any other fixes that I can try?
Sorry I hope someone can help you with a remedy for your little guy.

Kay we have to root for this underdog. Come one chickie you can do it!

I think others have had this problem and the chick got ok later. prayers for this little guy. HUmm
Maybe Brookhaven will have an answer idont know if the ppl did anything to help the bloody guys or not. Forgot!!!

I second Brookhavens recommendations - I have thermometer and hygros that are very similar.

I also have one of these home brew thermometers which appear to be pretty accurate:

I spent a lot of time fiddling around with thermometers (I had 4 measuring similanteously) and trying to find an accurate one - and also calibrating this against the thermostat.

The trick is to have your thermometers measuring at the same spot at the top, and middle of your eggs. When turning the eggs three times daily I also rotated the location within the incubator to mitigate the effects of hot and cold spots with the incubator - even if it is forced air.
Very good idea to rotate the eggs too.I just read about this recently that hens do it...Must work!!

I got 0 out of 18!!.
Threw them out today... day 23.Discusted.
Just how the chicky crumbles i guess and better luck next time to all.!!

Im on to puppiy birthing ...Well in 8 weeks. BOTH my E. Mastiff girls are in heat.
I didnt know about the one (the MOm of the other) and shes the one been with my male Jackson.... quietly in heat!! .
...,,,Her daughter Sophie is the one I DO want pregnant so hopefully not 2 litters as that could be disasterous in my little house ...........24 BIG puppies possible?in WINTER COLD...? WHEW....NO WAY!
LAST time Mom didnt get pregnant so hope its like that this time or i will be in trouble

So end of the hatching for this year and will do more next year hopefully Feb March .I will see some of you then and be watching the threads even so...too addicted to stop that part and met so many great funny and nice helpful ppl on here..GOOD LUCK to all who are hatching...and have hatched.

HOTPOKER
congrats!!
Wonder Who did you get your eggs from and what kind?
I ask because....
. i have done the same things to most of my shipped egg hatches with ok sucess.L ast one before this one ..... did great too
Got 10 of 14 eggs I was sent. (one also smothered after pip )So 11 of 14 were perfect.
I ran 99.5-101.1 temp all the hatches and humidity 42-46 .
So my theory on why i did so well on that one is;.... The eggs somehow are more impervious to the shipping jumbling. Genes.

All were packed well none broken etc..all but one from a state or 2 away .south of me so little difference in any .
Even the heat was the same HOT and some had ice packs others not .Good one NOT....

I am sure you had the humidity and temp perfect for your home and area and should use it from now on as it worked so well........but i think genes also have a part in shipped eggs making it. and hatching
.
My great hatch was from BIG DAWG on BYC "show quality Light Brahmas"
Why i ask you about the breeder and breed.
I think anyone who wants your breed might want to try your breeder too for a better sucess.rate.

mabhera
I am the same. If i get one i am thrilled.....ALL shipped.
My record is ; 0,0, 1,5,3,5 3,10, 0.
I knew this one would be a bummer b/c the hatch gods let me have 10 of 13 of SHIPPED eggs the time before. HAHA..Cross your fingers to the hatch gods to be gentle on you.thats what idid onthe 10 chicks.

LOL...like it a lot....hatch gods. My first 2 incubations I had hatches....even with my bad first homemade incubation and the high temps spikes...one it got to 107 and 2 power losses (first hatch) I had 7 out of 15 I think and I got them around december 23 so the shipping must had been wild. Next one was 7 out of 12....next was o out of 53 eggs, 1 (with help) out of 15, now with this one lets see. Maybe the hatch gods are trying to tell me to stop spending money in this...who knows.
I am expecting a box of eggs and looks like is lost in the mail. For me the worst part is not that the eggs are lost...the worst is that the seller is a first timer shipping to Puerto Rico (she never ships out of the continental USA and she did it for me) and I dont want her to feel she should never send again to here..It is really the first time one of this boxes take more than 5 days. And I understand the risk is mine and only mine.
