need your wisdom , i hatched two chicks on 14/7/12 a polish and a silkie well i deffo know the polish is a male but dont know about the silkie can you have a look at these pics for me please

this last pic not very good sorry
Best picture would be full face from the front with the crest pulled back. But, I'm guessing boy from what I can see of the comb. Just guessing here but you should know if that comb starts to pop out more. My cockerel just started to crow and he's 5 months old but I've know by his comb he was a boy for 6 weeks now.

Well my hatch day would have been yesterday. So I candled one last time, not expecting to see anything. Since this was my first hatch, I let the eggs go the whole 21 days, but I knew they were not going to hatch. I did everything right, but they were shipped eggs. So I took them outside and opened them up. Nothing. They never even tried to start. No blood, no spots, nothing. They just looked like yolks. The whites were watery and the yolks were broke easy. I thought they might not be fertile but I could not find the spot on the yolks to tell. 19 eggs and not a single one tried to start. Oh well. Anyone else have experience with anything like this? Thanks.
I read all the post after your initial and I am so happy that the breeder acknowledged what might have happened and is refunding your money. I think I would purchase from her again. Good luck on your mixed bag of chicks. I can't even imagine getting a turkey and raising it. It will be exciting to say the least when you get them.

I have been scrolling through pictures of the newest hatches, congratulations to you all on the beautiful chicks! My oldest ones are a week old now and just hatched out 3 more on Thursday. I am going to take some pictures later. the is a picture of three of the 4 week olds.. unfortunately I lost one of them ( there were originally 4) a couple days ago. They are from a Paint Silkie to Paint Silkie breeding. The first one is a paint :) Unfortunately poor pigmentation sort of goes along with the paints sometimes like on the 3rd chick who will move on the a nice pet home when it grows up a bit :)

So is this third one as yellow as it appears in the picture or was that the lighting? And why do you think it came out with a peach colored beak and skin? The paints you breaded had black skin and beak right? Is this just something that has come down from the parents lineage? I'm just trying to learn so I know I'm asking a lot of questions, sorry.

I think they are all so cute. I want a splash that has a lot of white with the blackish/blue streaks. What do you think the second one will look like as an adult?

So here are current pictures of those mystery chicks...hope someone can identify them in their chick stage of life.

The first one is my favorite, shhhh, don't tell the other two...it is the smallest and has a feathered foot. The next one is just a tad bit bigger and the yellow is bigger than the other two. I know that probably doesn't help but what the heck. The grandsons got to see their chicks today and they were so excited. My daughter was smitten too but dad said that they had no place to keep them because of their counties law, NO CHICKENS! So we will keep them until...I don't know. So I am officially done with hatching now. I had a great 1st time experience using my wonderful silkie hens and their broodiness. I learned so much from each of you and I will be stalking you in your next hatches, hahaha, you thought you were getting rid of me, NOT

I would say Serama. They are teensy when full grown and itsy bitsy when chicks. Were the eggs small? That one is a DOLL!!!!

Well that's a couple of you that have said Serama on this black chick so maybe that's what it is. It is itsy bitsy and the other one with the tan on it is even smaller. The yellow one is bigger than these two. Fun, fun, fun.

For some reason I was not being notified by email when posts where being made to this thread. Just did a bit of catching up and now I will give an update on my chicks. It looks like I ended up with 4/10 silkies. I did candle last night and saw 1 internal pip and the 3 others there is no movement. I am waiting until Sunday to see if anything happens. I ended up with 3/5 Marans hatching. The 3rd one had pipped Wednesday night and I gave it 24 hours before starting to help. I could see the membrane was starting to dry up. I opened the pip to about the size of a dime and wet down the membrane as much as I could and put the egg back in. The little guy was chirping and moving around but something told me that he hadn't absorbed all the yolk yet. I took it out again right before bed and peeled a little more of the shell away. This little guy just did not want to zip his way out. I wet the membrane again and put him back in the bator hoping he would hatch by morning. I was in a sound sleep and something told me to go assist the chick. 5:30 am mind you. So with bleary eyes I went and looked and the poor little guy was totally shrunk wrapped except for the pip area and the part I had peeled away. I warmed up some water and went to work and the little guy hatched and was covered in dried up crud. I am really glad I had waited though because it looked like the umbilical cord had just fallen off. Worked like crazy to clean the chick and then put him back in the bator. Every hour I have been taking him out and trying to get more of the gunk off. He is finally starting to look like a chick. I'll post pics of everyone once this little one is in the brooder.
You saved his life. What are you going to name him? Something to go with his story? Congrats Brook!

Cindy, I have Seramas and they come in all colors. But I don't have any with feathered legs. Not sure what that one might be. Here is a link for Serama chicks:

Hope that helps!!!!
