Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Where is that? I'm tempted to get more of other things from the hatchery, just a quick phone call, but my DH is gonna kill me if I make him build too many more porta-cages!!! They are quick and easy, but still not free. He's wondering where all these eggs keep coming from....

(since we both have a small buisiness, our funds are totally seperate, with us just throwing in on the bills, I love the freedom. I'm not a clothes horse, and I don't have very expensive taste, but I do love my animals and birds)

Marty, remember when buying from a hatchery you are buying hatchery (utility) stock and not breeding stock. Many times the hatchery stock barely resembles the true breed.

Well, I hope the ducks work out. They and the chicken trio are the only birds I've ordered in 5 years!

What all chickens do you keep? I want a small flock of rainbow layers pullets.

Marty, our Khaki are from Metzers and are great utility ducks, their eggs sell well priced low. The babies are strong and healthy, and they bug all day long.

We have our sons BCM flock that he is still culling birds from and hatched last August through January to build it from. We have a large flock of Easter Eggers that also include a couple of Ameracuana hens for blue shells and a few Olive Eggers as well. In with them are a couple of Light brahma and blue laced red Wyandotte too for lighter tan eggs.

The eatting egg flock has medium dark brown from a blue copper marans hen, tan eggs from the brahma and BLRW, and green, olive, blue from the EE and blue from the Ameracuana.

Here is the Marans egg chart. Anything below a 5 is not a quality egg for a Marans, and based on the breed standard makes that hen a cull and worth breeding.
