Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Pics of boxes. Large is Carole's dewlaps, medium is Erin, and small is random ebay seller:

Carole's opened up. Had to remove a strip of bubble wrap down center to take pic:

Random Ebay Seller...removed packing peanuts to show eggs. Notice how squished into each other they are... guess I should not be surprised one was broken on the side of egg.

This is Erin's box. I had to remove a bunch of shredded newspaper to show eggs.
I hate those Small boxes! Especially when they smush the eggs into them!

I look forward to doing a follow up in a week with development stats for the 3 sets. However, since Carole so sweetly sent me TEN eggs instead of 4, it doesn't really matter if the ebay dewlaps develop.

Steven, with every shipment of eggs received, the harsher a critic I become on packaging. Carole (ebay name ratitemomma) has set incredibly high standards for my expectations.

Goosed, YAY!!! Hm... you were saying you wanted dewlaps... well, jump on the Carole bandwagon. Marty, Celtic and I are all setting her eggs this week too.

Marty, what's the latest update/pic on your toulouse baby??

On the topic of impressive egg sellers.... who was looking for marans?? Thistle Down Farms sells them. I don't know a darn thing about chickens, but I bet they are super high quality!!

Okay here's problem goosey scenario:

Noticed she wasn't internally pipping. I saw her moving but only in the bottom of the dip.. Thought to myself.. "hmmmm... I have a bad feeling about this one." I made a hole and saw that she had NOT internally pipped, worked my way down the side of her shell looking for her beak and have finally found it. Here is a pic. I did the best I could trying to follow her anatomy to find her head and not compromise the shell.

She was completely upside down. The movement I saw was her foot pushing on the air cell. She is covered in a thick goo like substance. Here's a pic of that.

What is that stuff? It's a thick fluid. The last goose I hatched looked like this and it ended badly.

This is day 28 and right now she is doing some labored breathing.. but she did honk at me when I found her beak.

Thoughts?

Marty, how are your eggs doing?

Got the eggs home, all three have detached air cells, one looks very bubbly but will know better when I candle before setting. Have to clean a Brinsea and warm it so I can lave these standing up. My goose racks in the cabinet lay all the eggs on their sides.

Iain, cabinet bators are nice, but then you have ALL of that room you can fill. Makes eBay very dangerous lol.

QJ, do you have gauze 2x2 or 4x4 pads? Is so run hot water and dunk one in it. Then open up the gauze and wrap around the opening making sure to not cover the gosling.

Looks like it was going to pip the small end. The goo is the inner membrane that actually holds the vessels and such. As long as the nares are free it's time to boost that humidity to 80% set her in the bator and leave the egg be. Should be a Wednesday hatch day if all goes well enough for you after freeing it's nares today so it can breath.
