Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Thanks Iain I gave him a little grit with the grass, am going to take them outside for a bit today it's a beautiful day , wonder why ducks don't get everything they need from the mazuri?

Just felt a jolt of stress adrenaline as I checked the tracker on my buff goslings and see they were delivered to post office 3 hours ago. They are guaranteed delivered by Thursday 3pm. Oh man, they are officially in the hands of USPS.

for their safe arrival!!

Some ducks just need a little extra boost. I had 1 duck out of 30 all raised the same that developed a vit b deficiency (wry neck/star gazing). Fortunately, they are resilient and a week of polyvisol drops fixed her up 100%.

Iain, I don't know what info you were given on receiving shipped birds, but I tell all of our buyers NO food for the first hour after they arrive. Hydrate first with room temp water (not cold as its a shocker to their systems). Then you can begin to offer food starting the second hour. This has always helped post shipping stress to be reduced.

What are your daytime highs right now?

I had planned on keeping them in brooder pen inside at first. Water only until I saw them poop and nibbling around for food.

This time of year is a major yoyo of weather, but our forecast for the next few days is pretty good. Highs close to 70.

Got an update from Carole saying she shipped the babies "in one very large box. Heavy!" She also says she put in lots of grogel. They may arrive in the morning. I've already talked to my local post office, so they know I will pick them up. Watching tracking carefully tonight to see if they arrive at my local sorting office in time to get up to my local post office.

I've moved mine outside to brooders with wire sides and a roof, but I'm giving them a light and cover at night. Our weater was 95, today 90, tomarrow 85, and then 70s again.... Ugh. We've been out in the pool, but I'm guessing not for the next few days again.

I have a lone sebbie egg turning nicely, and working the bottem of her egg. If she gets here safe, she be goose number 12. Luna is twice the size of all the other babies. Shes not even a week older, but it is clear that shes going to be much bigger than the dewlaps. She's the size of a football now, while the others are just little grapefruits with wings.

Um... I don't like to think about how many geese I'm up to now, but it is more than 12. lol At least my buff trio will be the last additions to my flock. My bators have been off for a week and I love it.

I took a couple of pics of my toulouse babies this evening when putting them away and thought of you. Chicory, my erin toulouse, is a lot lighter colored than my other toulouse, but right on par size wise for her age. Barley, who is 4 days younger is bigger (thicker) than Chicory. I will get them posted in the morning for you to see.

I expect to put my new buffs into garage within 1-2 days and hope to integrate them with Barley and Chicory as soon as possible. I also plan to move my grey dewlaps to garage next week, but I am not sure yet the best way to set it up for Spirit. I think I may invest in a baby monitor camera to keep a close eye on her. I worry so about her, but she continues to thrive.

I've thought about getting those video monitors too! Glad to hear I'm not alone. When I've got a flippy one, I reaaly want one!

I thought I'd be done after the sebbie hatch, but I ebayed and won some more jumbo pekings from somebody else. The last dozen were 100% faillure. I've got one lone giant peking, and Lucky thinks she is a sebastopol now. She even eats grass with them, instead of hunting down the usual duck flavors (snail, slug, worm, bug, etc)

I think it is the only way I can be ok with Spirit being in garage and possible turnout until she can stop rolling over onto back if she trips and falls, which still happens every so often. As it is, I check on her at least 15-20 times per day!

Very cool you got more jumbo pekin eggs! My Cayuga and silver apple raised with barley and chicory get confused about being ducks. They never got scared of humans, follow nicely from pen to yard without herding, and crawl into my lap if I sit down. It should be interesting when it is time to put them with the rest of the ducks.
