Sue... yay!! Make sure to place egg on its side with dip side up. It does not need to be turned now. Keep an eye for shadows coming up the back of the air cell (which will be on the bottom of the egg). Hold your temp and humidity steady until it internally pips.

Um Pete? I just checked Holderreads' website. They want $80 per gosling, minimum 4, plus shipping, which means $360 plus shipping. If I want 2 pairs, then it is $420 plus shipping. I can buy 15-20 eggs for that price. Hm....

I did all that, no shadows yet ( I looked) and just read the Guide again.... now the waiting ....

I didn't realize the aircell would be so easy to candle even in the daytime now

Oh dear, candled last night, and it seems that out of my 2 duck eggs and 7 geese, only one duck egg and one goose egg is alive.

The eggs that apear unfertill will remain in the bator' anyway just in case.......


Today I took four more geese eggs from the nest, and they are now in the incubator. I'm calling them group two so I don't get confused. Group one will go into a diffrent incubator for lockdown and hatch.

Yes Sue... it becomes very visible! It usually takes a couple of days once drop starts before you will see shadows in air cell. It helps if you candle egg while it is laying on its side... so you can better judge the rate of shadows coming into back of air cell.

Bummer about only 1 goosie developing, Lapay... hope the eggs you just collected fare better in the bator!

Sue - now you need a distraction as the waiting when you're so near is very hard. Just got to let the gosling wriggle into its hatching position.

Iain - great results with your eggs and very good fertility. I know it seems expensive but I'd trade all those eggs and more to get Holderread Dewlaps. If he retires your chance has gone forever and he has been reducing stock in other breeds.

Lapay - sorry to hear about low fertility but that happens and its early in the breeding season yet so lets hope you have some improvement in the next batch of eggs.

I'm having problems with my goose egg turner. It seems like my eggs are too heavy for the turner to pull the eggs back once they are fully turned. I have 4 eggs in the bator with a turner that is suppose to hold 12 eggs. The turner is working but when it goes all the way to one side the eggs roll out really far and then the turner cannot muster the strength to pull the eggs back.

Do I have a problem with the position of my clips? What do you all think about using a turner? I work full time so I can only turn my eggs before I leave for work around 7 a.m and then I am home at 4. If I was to stop using the turner would I be able to hand turn with that schedule?

I unplugged the turner this morning because I was afraid it would burn the motor up with all the weight. It worked fine when I tested the temp and humidity with chicken eggs using my other racks in it.

I'm not crazy about the design of the goose racks, they roll out too easily.

Thanks! I'm thrilled with how well my goose eggs have been developing... seems I have better luck with them than I do with duck eggs. Perhaps if I can get one pair of the toulouse from holderreads and fill the rest of the order with a few cayuga ducks, it will be worth serious consideration. I will call them later this morning. I did also email napoleangoose here on byc, as she sold eggs last year and the pics of her geese are very nice.... so hopefully she will reply too.

I'm continuing my hunt.... at these prices, I will make sure my research into various options is thorough.
