Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Good luck!

Your in good hands with Iain and QuackerJack. I'm on my first goose incubation now. They sound a lot more complicated than the ducks I'm usually hatching.

Q: We're smelling something ucky around the goose egg bator. When I candle, everyone looks ok. The egg that smells, the seb most likely to give me color-has an egg from a mama who hides hers, and it is a bit dirty. I decided to give it a quick wash in 99* water. I thought it would be a good way to also do the immersion test simultaniously. It moved a lot, so i quickly (a couple of seconds) rubbed them in the warm water to wash some smell off, and then dried them and put them into a bator that was now empty. It is now isolated in a bator, just in case (don't want any explosions w/the goose and muscovey eggs). I think it smells better, but I have allergies going on. Any thoughts?? Can the dirt/uck on the shell have caused that awefull smell?

I didn't think my egg was any good because it stunk. It's growing though, so I'm thinking the smell was just because it was by the pond so has that lovely duck/goose/fish aroma going on.

Just wanted to say that this thread has been so much fun to follow (I read through from the beginning post), and I've learned a heck of a lot! Currently on my first incubator experience. 2 production Toulouse geese, an African goose, and a Toulouse gander that are a year old actually gave me fertile eggs this year! Ran 9 to start, in a forced air incubator, and the 4/9 that developed are on day 25. I'm anxious as all get-out, but all seems to be going fairly well so far. They're only at about 8% moisture loss right now, though, which is a little low this far in? Anyhoo, fingers crossed!

Welcome, bullcreek! Glad to have you! Run your bator as dry as possible for the next 48-72 hours. Mist and cool them for 30 minutes at least once per day. That may help increase weight loss, but at day 25, there is not much time left. Best of luck on a smooth hatch!

Thanks, Iain! That's nearly exactly what I've been doing the last couple days (though I'll up my current 20 min cool down to 30 per your suggestion), so it's great to have confirmation that I'm doing something right in trying to fix the problem.

I managed to drop them from 6% to 8% over the last few days, so hopefully I can come close to the required over the couple days I have left. Thanks again!!!

Ok while I sit and wait on the incubation, I revised my excel spreadsheet to make things easier for me and my egg weights. I will add it here if I can figure out how. Its pretty handy and shows the goal % weight loss for 7, 14, 18 (chicken eggs), 21 and 28 days. Just enter the actual weight where appropriate and you will see the % weight loss next to it. Well,I dont have permission to attach anything so if its something you want, pm me with your email addy and i'll send it on. It is full of my stuff so you will have to delete my info without deleting the formulas.

Still anxiously awaiting some action from my little egger! Im hoping for internal pipping tonight. So, in the mean time, I went ahead and collected 3 more eggs from Lucinda's nest and I'm getting them ready to go in

I JUST remembered that I have a food scale somewhere in htis house!! Woot Woot! And it measures in grams, so I can weigh these 3 and do this by the book! lol

Evening all, both 3/8 geese hatched and are resting in the house tonight. Tomorrow they will move outside with all of the previous hatchlings.

Have a new idea for shipping hatching eggs. Going to build the box set up and post here for thoughts. Be back shortly.

I also weighed the 3 I just collected:
A1 - 162
A2 - 159
A3 - 155

I weighed the eggs I already had going also (except for 3/8 which is in lock down)

3/17, 19 days - 130
3/19, 17 days - 138
3/28, 8 days - 147
3/29, 7 days - 155

I need help figuring out what the approx loss is for these since I didn't weigh from day one. I know Pete was able to figure it for Sue with squishy. Pete?!?!
