Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Oh, I hope I get a lot of buffs. It would be super awesome to end up with 5 or 6 babies, so I'll know I'll have a flock!!! Then, in the fall when Celtic sendd me my pair of sebs and a trio of muscoveys, my joy will be complete. Of course, I'm allready up to my arse in baby ducks. Gonna start selling them soon. (and eating a few)

I want to get sebs too! Once I have my dewlaps and sebs, my joy will be complete!

I'm with ya. I lost all three in the last hatch. (Mostly due to outside factors, not bad babbies). I'm on a llist for sebbie eggs, and if she just lays another 4-5 I'll get my 2-3. At $20/egg, they'd better be good ones! I know Quacker Jack just hatched one or two of them from her. I want sebbies, and its hard to wait for eggies.

That stinks you lost them

Hopefully you get your eggs and get to try again!

Good morning guys. Well, my remaining babies are still with me and everyone is doing well... when I was out of town yesterday, hubby built a 3rd large pen in garage and moved the 7 3-week-old ducks out... and there is a party going on now in my garage with 15 ducks chatting it up. All that is remaining in brooder room are my four 2.5 week old goslings, my dynamic duo Molasses and his BFF toulouse, and my two precious buffs. It's nice.

Got 4 more buff eggs shipping out tomorrow morning.... and my lovely cayuga egg seller/friend is sending me 3-4 eggs on Monday. I really do not want to have another round of eggs to cook... and honestly, folks, hatching the buffs are way harder than any other breed of goose or duck, so really not looking forward to hatch time. But, I am determined to have a breeding pair/trio of buffs and a bigger flock of cayugas. So... gosh darn it, this will be my LAST set of eggs for the season.

Mohillbilly, the easiest and best way to get eggs from Carole is through her ebay auctions. However, you can also reach her at [email protected] or by phone (831) 761-2963. Her buffs have slowed way down, but her greys are still laying like crazy. Should be no problem to get eggs from her.

Goosed, I am still happy to send you goslings (assuming they hatch out)... but I feel I should let you know that Carole just hatched out a bunch of goslings and could send you babies a lot sooner (and probably safer) than me.

thanks Iain ,
once this cold snap is over I will be ordering some from her. don't want to risk frozen goose eggs and as it is not suppose to last more than a few days.
Cayuga ducks sound interesting, heard they are one of the better meat ducks. May have to try some of them too.

Thanks, Sue.

Mohillbilly, she ships with a heat pack so no worries about frozen eggs. I'm telling ya, this lady knows what she is doing!!! I tossed all eggs (quitters, non developers) this morning (Sorry, Erin!!).... the only thing that remains are 7 of 10 eggs from Carole.

As for cayugas, I love them so much more than my anconas. They are very calm and friendly. I'm told they are good meat birds, but are harder to process because of dark skin. Not sure though, as I do not personally eat waterfowl. I also have a single silver appleyard that is calm like the cayugas. I am told they are very good meat birds too.

Erin update for you. Pulled an egg that the air cell was fluid filled. Opened and it was not fertile. I rolled the yolk 360 to make sure. The shell was even inside and out on inspection. Left two as one looks to maybe doing something. Will check them tonight and either keep or toss at that time.

12 eggs rolling into a lockdown this weekend.

Just raided a nest and took 7 eggs, all are growing strong, left her with three.

22 Silver Appleyard eggs cooking away, 36 Easter Egger chicken eggs for an order also cooking, and a dozen khaki Cambell for an order.

Oh and hubby's French white Scovy started laying!
